Masterchef 2017
Baz I've decided that the way the programme is formulated these days is spoiling it ....I preferred it ....and think it was much fairer...when they had sections such as the palate test , and ingredients test....that way contestants had to do more than cook their own ethnic cuisine all the way through . Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing Giovana, I fear, failed to hit the mark And Steve's food didn't set off that spark. Saliha, may be a very nice person But is a 3 course curry Masterchef perfection? ! [ more ]

Other countries exiting the EU
Garage Joe It's quite fascinating! Not only do a lot of the rabid Brexiteers want to spoil our economy but they wish to see the EU collapse. So far the Germans and Dutch have rejected the fruitcake parties and one can only hope that Johnny Frenchie does the same. [ more ]
Carnelian I doubt any nation will leave the EU once they see how utterly stupid the UK is in following Brexit. Most EU countries don't have right wing foreign press barons who couldn't give a damn about British people running their media like we have. [ more ]

Quiz: How well do you know your Glasgow bands?
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities I actually like feedback in fact there was a period in time when I was into a band called Spaceman 3 and also a chap called Sonic Boom and other associated acts. I Recall a gig at the Leadmill where one song seemed to be 20 mins long, we had bright lights trained on us, everyone sat on the floor and we were presented with a song consisting of rhythmic repetative chords with lashing of feedback and sustain until we were enveloped in the sound. Truly marvellous. [ more ]
Eugene's Lair This was their biggest hit - Top 20 in 1986. Actually, "Taste of Cindy" would be my first choice, however the heavy use of feedback as a musical instrument - despite being the defining characteristic of the Mary Chain's style - can be a bit off-putting to some. "Killermont Street" is a long-standing personal favourite, but as the band behind it is the answer to Question 12, I'll post it in the "What are you listening to right now?" thread... [ more ]
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing Trouble is that it seems to be thought, these days, that if the post code starts with a 'G' then it is Glasgow and that if there is no break in the 'built-up' area from the centre of Glasgow then it is Glasgow. (Even though the post code is 'ML') East Kilbride - G74 Bellshill -ML6 [ more ]

Palace of Westminster and Westminster Bridge
Eugene's Lair Well... Yes , actually. Here's a reminder of the reaction to the Birmingham pub bombings in 1974: "The bombings stoked considerable anti-Irish sentiment in Birmingham, which had an Irish community of 100,000. Irish people were ostracised from public places and subjected to physical assaults, verbal abuse and death threats. Both in Birmingham and across England, Irish homes, pubs, businesses and community centres were attacked, in some cases with firebombs. Staff at thirty factories across... [ more ]

Beginnings
Saint My favourite? So what are you going to do with your life? I'm gonna get a job in a abattoir and i'm gonna work really hard - then I'm gonna find meself a boyfriend who's a b*st*rd and we're gonna knock out loads of kids with mental problems. And then i'm gonna sit around and wait for the menopause . . . or cancer. [ more ]
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing One thing I felt about the films was that some of the action was rather cryptic/confusing and would possibly be hard to understand if you didn't already know the story! [ more ]
Saint Lordy - I hated Dune Not watched for years - may feel differently if I watched it again (who knows) but at the time I remember it being one of the worst i'd seen [ more ]

Colin Dexter, creator of Morse, has died
Rexi Well, speaking as the only Oxfordonian, born and bred, here ... may I just say if you ever try to navigate the city centre road system like they portray in in Morse/ Lewis/Endevour, you are guaranteed a ticket, six points , etc, etc Loved the Dexter books though, especially The Last Bus To Woodstock [ more ]
Lori Mr. Lori watches the TV show on a rather hit-or-miss basis, and I typically get drawn into it. Sorry to hear of his passing. [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities I have to say, I don't think I have ever seen a Morse. [ more ]

Eugene's Lair Just been reading and listening to Jack Monroe's comments since the verdict. Turns out she was repeatedly subjected to death threats from Hopkins' followers ("six A4 ring-binders of tweets" - Jeez...), and the stress caused her to break up with her partner. Jack Monroe 'fell apart' after Katie Hopkins tweets Under the circumstances, I think the following is worth repeating: "I've got a lot of compassion for her actually. It can't be nice for the whole world to be waiting for your downfall. I... [ more ]

The March Budget
Baz I agree EC ...and it annoys me that if a government refuses to change a policy they are castigated ....and if they listen to the electorate and change a policy they are still castigated ...they can't win and that applies to governments of all persuasions... [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Labour's Jeremy Corbyn said the U-turn showed a government "in chaos". I do find politics quite annoying and even when something good happens the opposition (whoever it is) wants to turn it into a negative. I would say to Jeremy that one decision does not a chaos make, we would be stupid not to look at ALL of governments decisions and draw a conclusion from that. [ more ]

El Loro Never having seen Victor Victoria I don't know what the cause is but if you look closely Jule Andrews' voice isn't quite in sync with her mouth movements. It could be that as she supposed to be a man in drag she's mouthing to a recording of her singing which would explain it. [ more ]
