Snowed in with Keith Floyd – but alive to tell the tale
The long lunch we enjoyed in 2003, which lasted three days, suggests Keith Floyd was master of the genre, says Celia Walden.

It's some consolation to hear that Keith Floyd died after a long, sodden lunch. The one we enjoyed in 2003, which lasted three days, suggests he was the master of the genre.

It began on a freezing Friday in Hertfordshire, at the Auberge du Lac restaurant, where we had met at a party the night before. Noting the descent of a few snowflakes, Floyd mooted blithely: "Another bottle of Gevrey-Chambertin while the snow passes?" Only it didn't, and lunch turned into dinner, and cognacs by the fire. If there is a better person to be snowed in with, I've not met them: Floyd was a sharp, politically incorrect and ebullient companion.

The following morning, the roads were covered with four inches of snow, but Floyd convinced his driver to take us back to London, where we discovered that his Eurostar home to Avignon had been cancelled. Two more days passed in a haze of comfort food, witty anecdotes, red burgundy and cheap cigarette smoke.

We wandered, drunk, around the Natural History Museum, which was, he joked, "the only place I still feel young", before heading to his favourite fish-and-chip restaurant, Geales, where the maître d' marvelled over the procession of "daughters", of varied colouring, who would join Floyd at his table.

One particular anecdote, encapsulating his un-precious attitude to celebrity, has stayed with me. Years earlier, after a "kiss and tell" had been published in a tabloid, the paper rang to offer Floyd £20,000 to write a weekly column. "I told them exactly where to stick it," he explained. "But a few minutes later, my manager rang to say they'd offered £50,000. 'Listen,' I said. 'Tell them they could offer me £100,000 and I still wouldn't work for them.' "

A few minutes later, the manager rang back to say that the paper had offered £100,000. " 'Tell them I'd be delighted to accept,' " smiled Floyd.

Strictly Come Dancing Celebs Limber Up
Thursday, 17 September 2009 18:52

See Here (Click)

It is countdown to show time for the Strictly Come Dancing celebs and their professional dancers and the nerves on set are showing.

Only half the contestants actually compete on Friday night, with the other half performing in a group medley.

Sky News has been allowed on the Strictly set to chat with some of the non-competing celebrity dancers just 24 hours before the new season goes live.

With their professional others elsewhere, the stars talked animated about their Strictly Come Dancing experience so far and their feelings about finally dancing on telly in front of millions after weeks of training.

"We're going to be a shambles," says Jo Wood, estranged wife of Ronnie.

"Well, I hope we're not, but I feel that we are. I only danced in a nightclub before. Woohoo let's go, but that's it."

Jo goes on to say she has banned her whole family from going to watch her during the live performances.

She scoffs at the idea estranged husband, Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, might be watching.
"I have no idea, I can't imagine he would be".
Former cricketer Phil Tufnell has reportedly been mucking around a lot during rehearsals and one newspaper claimed his dance partner Katya was getting fed up with his jokey attitude.

The Bad Boy of English cricket looked hurt though at the suggestion he was becoming the bad boy of the dance floor.

"Have I? Messing around doing what?" he asks.
"Well you've got to have a smile on your face and enjoy it haven't you? I think it is actually probably a bit of nerves. Everybody is a bit sort of giggly.

"I'm going in there with a smile on my face and I'm going to try and keep it on there for as long as I can."

Tuffers then disappears off to have a burger in order, he says to "keep up the carbs".

This year there are two ex-Eastenders actors.
Natalie Cassidy, who played Sonia Jackson, and Ricky Groves, who has just left the programme after his character Garry Hobbs sailed off into the sunset with his dream girl.

Natalie has been in and out of the papers for her rapid weight gain and loss in recent years but she tells Sky News, she doesn't care about that side of things anymore.

"I'm not even checking. I'm just putting my clothes on and if they're a bit baggy then whatever really".

And as far as the show is concerned she says: "I can't believe I'm in it, it's really strange, like a dream. In rehearsals I'm just standing there and can hear it all going on - Brucey and Tess going 'couple number one'!".

Joe Calzaghe, Lynda Bellingham, Martina Hingis, Ricky Groves, Jade Johnson, Ali Bastian, Chris Hollins and Rav Wilding will be competing to stay in the competition on the first show.

Don't forget, after 11pm you won't be able to get into here.

The LiveCloud site will be open but not with the Gaga threads in it, they won't be there for a few hours, best wait till morning.

You will be able to find your way by typing gagaJoyjoy.com as here and it should direct you to the right place.

After you are signed in using your info that you use here go to 'Sites' or 'Explore' and to Communties and you should be able to find the 'UK Lounge' and 'Big Brother UK' via GaGaJoyJoy Forums / Forums / UK TV Fans, same as you do now.

Anyway, i'm sure we will all meet up one way or another.

Alexandra Burke reveals album title
X Factor 2008 winner Alexandra Burke has announced that her debut album is titled "Overcome".

17 September 2009 00:00 AM17 ViewsComment

X Factor 2008 winner Alexandra Burke has announced that her debut album is titled "Overcome".

It is to be released on October 19 and not as previously suggested October 26.

This release date will please Cheryl Cole, her mentor on the X Factor, who is to release her first solo album on October 26.

The first single to be released from Alexandra's album will be "Bad Boys" and will be in shops from October 12.

The singer said that when she saw the lyrics for the song she related to them and said she goes for men that do not treat her right.

She told the News of the World: "In the studio, after I'd done the first verse, I stopped singing and said to the producers, 'Do you realise how much I can relate to this song?'

"This is what I do. I go for the bad boys! I go for the boys I'm not meant to. I just knew that it had to be the first single.

"I texted Simon Cowell saying, 'Bad Boys' for first single?'

"He texted straight back saying, 'Most definitely'."

Burke praised Cheryl's solo single 'Fight For This Love', which she described as "a grower".

Manure dumped on Jeremy Clarkson's lawn
Thu Sep 17 2009 16:23:32

Horse manure has been dumped on the front lawn of Jeremy Clarkson's house by climate campaigners.

They have been protesting against the TV presenter's views on global warming.

Activists from environmental group Climate Rush said they had targeted the Top Gear presenter for his "blasé attitude to climate change".

The seven female protesters, dressed as suffragettes, made the stop outside Clarkson's home in Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire as part of a month-long awareness campaign.

A spokesman for the presenter said he had no comment on the stunt.

The group's spokeswoman, Tamsin Omond, 24, said: "I love Jeremy, I love fast cars, I love progress, but I've learnt some things and those things terrify me.

"If we keep on loving the fossil-fuelled lifestyle then by the time I hit 49, the world will be too busy coping with the impact of climate change to bother about how big an engine is possible.

Robbie Williams to perform new single live on the X Factor

ROBBIE WILLIAMS will give the first performance of his new single Bodies on the first of The X Factor live finals.

The former Take That star will sing on the TV talent show next month, the first time he has performed in the UK since 2006, as 12 finalists battle it out for viewers' votes.

He said: "I'm a huge fan of The X Factor - of course I'll be watching every week, just like everyone else."

Robbie will release a new album, Reality Killed The Video Star, on November 9, after two-and-a-half years away from the charts.

His last single was She's Madonna in March 2007 and his last album Rudebox in October 2006.

The new single, available on download on October 11, and album were both produced by Trevor Horn, the legendary producer who in his younger days was one half of electro-pop duo The Buggles.

The Buggles wrote and recorded No 1 hit Video Killed The Radio Star - the first song ever played on MTV - and the inspiration for the title of Robbie's new album.

Ratings war loom as Strictly Come Dancing returns

Ben Bailey
18.09.09

Alesha Dixon

Strictly Come Dancing returns to TV screens tonight for a seventh series and is gearing up for a ratings war with The X Factor.

The celebrity couples take to the dance floor for the first show of the new series tonight, and will go head to head with the hit talent show for more than an hour on Saturday.

The two shows have occasionally overlapped by up to half an hour, although during the last series BBC1's Strictly usually finished before its ITV1 rival began.

The BBC has abandoned Strictly's traditional Sunday night results show in favour of an extended Saturday edition, which is part of the reason for the clash.

Earlier this week Strictly waltzed into the record books as the most successful reality TV format of all time.

The new series will see stars including former EastEnder Natalie Cassidy, retired world champion boxer Joe Calzaghe and Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood's estranged wife Jo do battle on the dancefloor.

Calzaghe has been romantically linked to his dancing partner Kristina Rihanoff, but his ex-girlfriend Jo-Emma Larvin said she will still be voting for him.

The series also sees former winner Alesha Dixon joining the judging panel. The singer replaces choreographer Arlene Phillips.

Coleen Nolan hits out at Katie Price over rape claims

Dancing on Ice star Coleen Nolan has blasted Katie Price over her rape allegations, according to reports.

18 September 2009 00:00 AM

Dancing on Ice star Coleen Nolan has blasted Katie Price over her rape allegations, according to reports.

She has called for the reality star to tell the whole story or keep quiet.

Writing in column for the Daily Mirror Coleen said: "Immediately after saying her rapist was a 'top celebrity' Jordan/Katie or whatever her name is these days said she didn't want to talk about it anymore.

"Well too late, love. You should have thought about what you were and weren't prepared to talk about before opening your big mouth."

She continued: "If she has no intention of ever naming her attacker or going to the police there was absolutely no point in revealing he is a celebrity.

"I mean, is it somehow 'better' to have been raped by a celebrity?"

Katie has revealed in her OK magazine column that her attacker was a household name but has refused to identify him.

Coleen added: "Oh, and of course she has also returned the whole topic of rape back into a game of 'Was she or wasn't she?'

"For years the police and counselling groups have worked their socks off to ensure women who make claims of rape are treated seriously.

"Now Jordan's story has, for millons of people, turned the whole subject back into a case of 'Women just say these things for attention' or even worse, 'Most of 'em are asking for it'."

    • Katie Price's boyfriend thinks he will be dumped

Katie Price's lover Alex Reid is worried that he will soon by ditched by the reality star, according to reports.

The cage fighter thinks he will be kicked out of Katie's house as he feels she is no longer as interested in the relationship, reports the Daily Star.

A source told the newspaper: "Alex is really upset - he is mad about Kate but she has really cooled on him in recent weeks.

"She has lost interest all of a sudden and keeps snapping at him."

Katie and Alex began dating in July after her marriage to Peter Andre broke down in May.

He moved into her home in Surrey weeks after the start of the relationship.

Recently friends of the glamour model said that she is not committed enough to the relationship to consider marriage.

One source claimed: "Kate enjoys Alex's company but they're definitely not getting married.

"She feels she's far from being divorced at the moment. And she's been asked whether she loves Alex and she's never once said yes."

    Secret Millionaire returns with 2.8m

Channel 4 held its own against BBC1 last night, with the return of The Secret Millionaire attracting 2.8m viewers.

The first episode of the six-part series reached the same number of viewers as BBC1’s Swine Flu: Everything You Need To Know and each channel commanded a 13.2% share.

Wednesday was a new slot for the C4 show, which has previously run on Sunday and Monday nights. It beat the slot average of 2.5m.

Neither show was a match for ITV1’s live coverage of theUEFA Champions League match between Liverpool and Debrecen, which was watched by an average of 4.3m (a 20.3% share) between 7.30pm and 10pm.

In the last hour of coverage, ITV1 had an 18.63% share with 4m viewers.

With this competition, Five stood little chance with the return of former ITV1 show Farmer Wants a Wife. The formatted show was watched by just 898,000 (4.1%).

BBC2 performed strongly in the first part of the evening, with back-to-back episodes of Masterchef: the Professionals attracting 2.5m and 2.7m viewers at 8pm and 8.45pm respectively.

But it could muster less interest for the first in a six-part run of Dragons’ Den Online, a spin-off of the inventions show featuring ideas pitched on the internet. The show was watched by 1.6m (7.5%) at 9.30pm

Strictly Come Dancing star Lynda Bellingham is favourite to leave show first

Lynda Bellingham and Darren Bennett [Pic:BBC/PA)

Despite 40 years in the business, Strictly Come Dancing outsider Lynda Bellingham is remembered by most for the long-running Oxo campaign and by me for a low-budget film she once appeared topless in.

Men aren't attracted to women because of their mind, they're attracted to them because of what they don't mind and Lynda looks like the open-minded sort.

I can spot them a mile off - they're the ones who don't slap you in the face.

You have to laugh at the way showbiz types refer to acting as "the business", as if their aren't any other businesses in existence.

It slips people's minds that SCD is not a dance competition, it's a popularity contest. And what La Belle Bellingham has in abundance, apart from crates of free gravy granules, is the support of the public, especially as she is a regular on Loose Women - just as I'd like to be. That's why bookies are out of their minds to make her 9-4 favourite to be first dancer voted off when the new series begins tonight.

There are far better bets than her to get the boot first. Maybe Richard Dunwoody is the one.

He said this week that learning to dance is like learning a new language - although the only words I ever understood on a dance floor were "eff off, Ugly!" In the same way that Big Brother is spiced up by the introduction of friends and partners of housemates, it's my theory that whenever former jump jockey Dunwoody is on the floor, producers should send on a couple of loose horses.

    First elimination (Hills): 9-4 L Bellingham, 7-2 R Groves, 9-2 C Hollins, 5-1 M Hingis, 6-1 A Bastian, 9-1 J Johnson, 16-1 bar.

Tess Daly backs Martina Hingis on 'Strictly'

Tess Daly wants tennis ace Martina Hingis to win 'Strictly Come Dancing'.

The blonde beauty - who co-presents the celebrity dancing contest with Bruce Forsyth - believes the former tennis star and her professional partner Matthew Cutler have the potential to do triumph in this year's show.

She said: "Martina Hingis and Matthew Cutler could be spectacular. She's a sportswoman and he breeds champions. They are great together."

This year's show has seen some changes, in particular the replacement of judge Arlene Phillips with Alesha Dixon. Although Tess admits she will miss the choreographer, she believes her replacement - a former show winner - is a good choice.

She told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "I genuinely think Alesha will make a great judge because she's got an opinion and isn't scared of expressing it.

"As well as being gorgeous, she's got a big personality. She won't be afraid of having her say with the judges. She'll be exciting to watch.

"I don't want to sound disloyal to Arlene by saying that - I'm hugely fond of her and I think she's wonderful. I'm going to really miss her."

'Strictly Come Dancing' starts tonight (18.09.09) on BBC One.

Factor... it's Ali Bastian v Cheryl Cole

By Smithers on Sep 18, 09 12:43 PM

    Ali-v-Cheryl.jpg

SO Strictly Come Dancing will clash with the X Factor. Yawn. Digital channels show more repeats than a photocopier so it matters little.

BBC's dancing show returns to TV screens tonight for a seventh series.

The celebrity couples take to the dance floor for the first show of the new series tonight, and will go head to head with the X Factor for more than an hour on Saturday.

The two shows have occasionally overlapped by up to half an hour, although during the last series BBC1's Strictly usually finished before its ITV1 rival began.

However the big question this year comes down to a pair of rather fine fillies set to light up each show.

Ali Bastian or Cheryl Cole? You decide....

Prison teacher makes impact on 'X Factor'

Prison teacher Faye has revealed that she would like to winThe X Factor and become a worldwide diva.

The 28-year-old appears on this Saturday's audition show, where she performs Tina Turner's 'River Deep, Mountain High' for the Birmingham audience.

Dressed in stocking, suspenders and a corset, she makes an immediate impression on Dermot O'Leary and Simon Cowell, who approve of her outfit.

Speaking about her ambitions, she tells O'Leary: "I like to go to the hairdressers about three times a week, if I'm not in the hairdressers, I'm in the beauticians. My dream is to be an international worldwide diva. Oh God, I would love to be famous, can you imagine being followed by the paparazzi?

"I would never moan about being followed by the paparazzi. I would love it, I would sign autographs, and I would use my fame for good, like I would be an ambassador for the NSPCC or something like that... and save donkeys."

She adds: "Oh, and one of my ambitions is to be in Heat magazine because I read it every single week since day one. Yeah, on the cover... I don't do anything other then sing. I don't really know how to do anything other than sing. I would like to bring about world peace through music."

The X Factor airs on Saturday at 8pm on ITV1.

thanks for all the news stuff again Hicky.
It seems strange posting in this new format now.

Glad you found the thread, don't know how I quote your post, couldn't see a button to do it.

Not sure about the particular meaning of Toggle in this context but normaly it just turns a condition on/off each time you press it.
It is attached to the WYSIWYG so it must toggle that.
If you want the page to look different than it is.
    Will have to experiment.

Strictly Come Dancing: Joe Calzaghe denies rumours of romance with Kristina Rihanoff

The Strictly Come Dancing 2009 favourite Joe Calzaghe has denied that there is anything going on with dance partner Kristina Rihanoff.

     By Tom Chivers
Joe Calzaghe. The Strictly Come Dancing favourite has denied rumours of romance with dance partner Kristina Rihanoff
Joe Calzaghe: will he be as unbeatable on the dance floor as he was in the boxing ring?

Joe Calzaghe, the former boxing champion and current Strictly Come Dancing favourite, has insisted that his relationship with dance partner Kristina Rihanoff is purely professional.

Rumours had spread that the pair had become an item since they were spotted holding hands during a break in rehearsals. However, Calzaghe, who recently broke up with his long-term partner Jo-Emma Larvin, says that there is no romance in the air.

The fighter, 37, said: "We spend a lot of time together and we get on as well, so that's really good, and we really enjoy the training, and that's about it really. That's it."

Calzaghe, who went 46 fights unbeaten at super-middleweight and light-heavyweight, is the 9-2 favourite to win the BBC show. Rihanoff said that his footwork, honed by years in the ring, had helped him pick up the steps easily.

She said: "His footwork is pretty good, and I think you will see that tonight.

"There's a lot of pressure on him, I think, but he's working hard and I hope it's going to be a really good night for us."

However, Calzaghe has a lot to unlearn from his fighting days. He says he has had to work hard on his posture to stop himself crouching as he would in the ring.

He has faced another problem with his dancing – if problem is the right word. The Metro reports that the show’s producers have asked him to wear two pairs of underpants during his routines, as he “has a lot of movement” when he dances.

Keith Floyd 'left financial mess behind'

    Friday, September 18 2009, 17:00 BST

    By Daniel Kilkelly, Entertainment Reporter

Keith Floyd 'left financial mess behind'

    Rex Features

Keith Floyd had not paid a £50,000 divorce settlement to his ex-wife Tess before his death, a report has claimed.

The celebrity chef passed away at the age of 65 on Monday night after suffering a heart attack.

According to the Daily Express, the star's fourth wife is now facing "an uncertain future" as she fights to secure what she is rightfully owed.

It has been alleged that Floyd did not pay Tess despite a High Court ruling which ordered him to hand over the £50,000 sum. Additionally, he refused to put his French home on the market despite his ex-partner being entitled to 70% of the proceeds, the newspaper suggests.

"The situation with Tess wasn't properly resolved before Keith's death," a source said. "Tess is obviously owed what she is owed but it could be a complicated process before she gets what's hers.

"Keith was never that great when it came to managing his financial affairs and she's had to bear the brunt of that."

The insider added: "Financially, Keith has left quite a mess behind. It seems unlikely things will ever be satisfactorily resolved."

Simon Cowell loves Leona’s "genius" single

The notoriously hard to please music mogul has described her new track as “genius”.

    Simon Cowell loves Leona’s

Simon Cowell has given Leona Lewis high praise after describing her new single, Happy, as “genius”.

The notoriously hard to please music mogul has also admitted that he can’t stop listening to it because he loves it so much.

The X Factor boss – who signed Leona, a previous winner on the show, to his SyCo record label – also said that when he had friends visiting the song “must have been on repeat about 25 times”.

Speaking to ET Online, Simon said: "I remember where I was when I heard the song for the first time. I remember it starting and sitting up in my chair praying that the chorus was going to deliver on what I'd heard.

"As soon as it hit the chorus, I turned it off, got (Leona) on the phone and said, 'This song is genius'. I couldn't stop playing it."

He added: "When my friends came over from London it must have been on repeat about 25 times. All these people just falling in love with this record. I'd never seen a reaction like that before."

thanks , I have now got the quote, but my son is struggling with the avatar, and I haven't a clue. I tried using it from the one you posted, and also by a new one. Will have to try again tommorrow.
Glad you had a good day off work today.

I didn't watch the Dancing, but I did watch Derren Brown with the rest of the family. Very interesting.

    Hi Mollie.
Pity you couldn't get your Avatar sorted, maybe you have to paste the link to it on your Lappy then make a copy on your Lappy, then browse for it in the Avatar section.

I've no little ones here the weekend, one is away with his Mum, and my Lad wth the others is swimming in Spain.

    Nighty Night, sleep tight.

    Hi guys.
Well at least this thread is still intact, but I'm not very impressed with this place.
The pages seem to jump about when you go from one to the next, and I can't get my avatar to work.
I've set it as my primary picture in the profile, but it's not displaying (not for me anyway). I can't see Hicky's avatar either, just a red cross?

Anyway, it was a dry day, but grey and dull.
I've put my heating on for the first time tonight. The programming took a bit of fathoming out.

I've got a problem with my downstairs toilet. The cistern is leaking.
I phoned the landlady and she's getting a plumber out, but I've no idea when. I've tied the ballcock up, so it's not filling up, so I'm not going to get flooded out, but it's a nuisance.

Not sure what I'm doing tomorrow? Depends on wether the plumber comes I suppose.
I could do some work, but I could also afford to have a day off, as I'm more or less up to date.

I think I may have to get a new TV aerial for my main set, or re-cable the old aerial. I'm getting bad reception on some Freeview channels. It's nothing to do with my new TV, because I was having the same problems with the old set.
The other 2 aerials are working fine.
I think the cable probably is over 20 years old, and may have some damage or water ingress? Anyway I have bought some cable, and may tackle the job at the weekend (or maybe not ). If the cable doesn't make any difference then I'll have to shell out for a new high gain wide band aerial.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

    Night.

ETA: My avatar just popped up along with Hicky's.
Perhaps it just needed a bit of time to settle in?

I think I'll have to upload a higher res version, but that's on the other computer, so I'll try tomorrow.

Hi Emptybox. Glad you found us over here. Was wondering where you were. Your Avatar looks fine to me. Nothing worse than a leaking Toilet, it's not too bad if you have 2 and you can cut the water off it. The problem with Aerial cab;e is usually the terminations, get can cause problems from damp and may just need re-terminating. Hope your pleased with the new TV, you can't beat the big ones. Had a bit of a Li-in this morning, must get some food. Catch you later.

KNOCKOUT Big Brother babe Imogen Thomas shows off the famous curves that have kept randy footballer Jermain Defoe dribbling.

ABOVE: Imogen Thomas will be cheering on her
    footballer boyfriend Jermain Defoe tomorrow

Foxy Imo, 26, has the Spurs ace on top form on and off the pitch as England striker Jermain, limbers up for the team’s match against heavyweights Chelsea tomorrow.

Jermain, also 26, has previously dated WAGs Chantelle Houghton, 26, and Danielle Lloyd, 25, but Welsh rarebit Imogen definitely looks like a keeper.
