Twickers, my mother's parents live at Marple. When my mother was young, their idea of a seaside holiday was at New Brighton which is part of Wallasey, across the Mersey from Liverpool. When I was young we would go up on holiday during the summer and stayed with them. I have vague memories of going to New Brighton on a day out. We never got far enough to go to Blackpool. We sometimes went to Manchester and I remembered thinking it odd that two of the railwat stations were Piccadilly and Victoria as surely those were in London

Evening all

I hope you’ve all had a good day.

We’ve had sunshine and showers today.

I’ve never been to Blackpool

Hi Yogi and Buddies

My day has been good fankoo. I hope yours has too

Its been sunny, cloudy and windy but at least dry. Where as the next two days are supposed cooler, very wet and very windy

When I was young lots of families in our street used to band together and hire a coach to take us, on a day trip, to Blackpool

We would come back late enough to go through the Blackpool Illuminations

Happy day’s

Good morning everyone it's raining again. It feels so much fresher and yes Summer it's lovely to hear the sound of the rain. Not looking forward to the higher temperatures expected soon though.

I've not been to Blackpool either, we always headed to the South West, mostly Cornwall.  He loved sea fishing and we used to rent a house in Mevagissey.

Enjoy your day everyone

The Proms starts tonight with the premiere of Zosha Di Castri's latest work Long Is the Journey - Short Is the Memory, which marks the 50th anniversary of the lunar landings.

The BBC article is possibly more interesting than the actual piece of music. Couldn't find any clips of it but found some of other music she has written. I won't post any links to those as I don't want to inflict any pain to your ears on the screechy sounds being made by the violins. She seems to be one of those composers who goes for experimental sounds rather than what most of us think of as music.

The other two works played today at the Proms are real music: Dvorak’s The Golden Spinning Wheel and JanΓ‘cek’s Glagolitic Mass. (Glagolitic script is the oldest known Slavic alphabet and JanΓ‘cek came from that part of the world)

Back from that client, straightforward meeting as expected. Stayed dry whilst I was out. Very gloomy cloud cover and it's started raining again. Met Office map is showing white for rain here in a short while. That's the top end of their scale for rainfall at over 32 mm per hour. Doesn't mean that there will be over 32 mm in the hour, just that for a time they are forecasting it to rain at that rate. Typical rate for a thunderstorm downpour though there are no symbols for thunderstorms. At least I got back home before this starts. I pity those commuting home though.

Have a good day, everyone.
