Good day yesterday for Gloucestershire cricket beating Worcestershire in an exceptionally close 4 day match, certainly easily the closest county championship match in this country so far this year. Way too busy for me to have been able to go and watch it even though it was at Cheltenham College.

Highlights of the last day's play:

El Loro

I remember watching an episode of Pointless Celebrities. It was episode 15 of series 6 and the celebrities had connections with food among them were Jay Rayner. The two who got through to the final were Sean Wilson (who had become a cheese maker) and Emma Kennedy who had been a winner of Celebrity Masterchef.

The final question was to name a film made by any of Katherine Hepburn, Jack Nicholson or Marlon Brando for which they were nominated for an Oscar (so not necessarily win an Oscar).

The three films they came up with were Bringing Up Baby (Katherine Hepburn), On Golden Pond (also Katherine Hepburn) and Chinatown (Marlon Brando).

Good sensible answers but no pointless ones. Chinatown had 1. Bringing Up Baby wasn't right as although a very good film and starred Katherine Hepburn, she didn't get an Oscar Nomination. On Golden Pond was correct but 11 people had given that as an answer.

Of course, me being a bit of a film buff, this was my sort of question and I got two pointless answers, Films which many people wouldn't have heard of. Viva Zapata! was one of them (not that I've ever seen it as it's of no interest to me). The other one was the 1933 film Morning Glory with Katherine Hepburn. That is a film I've seen. A young aspiring actress arrives on the Broadway scene, she's taken under the wing of a number of theatre veterans who mentor her to success. It's a rather stagey film, and the male actors don't come across that well. But Katherine Hepburn, in a very early film for her, does have some memorable scenes such as her performing as Juliet (from Romeo and Juliet) at a party whilst she's intoxicated.

Her final scene is with her dresser (Helen Ware). The range of emotions Katherine Hepburn goes through in quite a short scene is remarkable and is why she justly won the Oscar. If the film as a whole was as good as that final scene it would rank as one of the greatest films made. Sadly it's not. I could post a clip of that final scene but as the events leading to it aren't there it would be out of context.

Good morning everyone

Cooler outside today but humid.

Ros, I'm glad it wasn't your house which was struck by lightning

The BBC cancelled the documentary "Inside the Bruderhof" last night at short notice supposedly because the 10.00 news was over-running. Rather questionable considering it was replaced by a repeat of a programme which was 20 minutes longer. On the BBC page for ITB they now say it will be shown on BBC Two on August the 7th at 2 in the morning. Although somewhat different, the Bruderhof have some similarities with the Amish.

I hope everyone has a good day

We've all heard of ransomware attacks. There's a free scheme available to victims to see if their files which have become encrypted by the criminals can be recovered without the need to pay any ransom money. It was set up by Interpol and McAfee and now has over 150 global partners. The scheme is called "No More Ransom".

Yogi, I'm not sure that the Bruderhof documentary has been rescheduled. The BBC page for it no longer shows that August 7th date. That date could have been intended for the repeat showing.

The Bruderhof have a twitter account where they say that the BBC had told them that the documentary wouldn't get shown due to the News at 10 overrunning and would update people when they knew more.

The BBC have some serious questions to answer about this as there's something very sinister about what's going on.

Very strange, El.

I hope they do reschedule it as it sounded like it was going to be interesting.

Good morning evetyone

Cloudy and cooler here. May get some rain depending as to how far to the west the rain in the east gets.

I've made a formal complaint to the BBC re the Bruderhof documentary on the basis that their statement for the cancellation of the News at 10 overrunning by 10 minutes so the documentary (lasting 40 minutes) with another documentary (lasting 60 minutes) is fundamentally flawed.

In due course they should respond and I'll let you know what they say. If nothing else they may say if and when the documentary will get shown,

I hope eveyone has a good day

Yogi, I'm glad you are happy with the rain

The BBC said in their automated reply that they would respond within 10 working days if possible.  I think others will have complained though if they've just referred to the fact that it was cancelled they could just get a response saying that it was because the news overran. Mine is challenging that.
