Unless HMRC give approval, either the letting agency (if used) or otherwise the tenant has to deduct tax from the rent, pay the tax over to HMRC and the net goes to the landlord.

At present, UK properties owned by a non-resident don't get subject to capital gains tax when sold. In the budget the other week, the chancellor announced that as from April next year that will no longer be the case for residential properties.

Just the thing to keep my mind active on a Friday afternoon

El, you deserve a round of applause for coping with that lot on a Friday afternoon.

Good morning everyone

Cloudy here, may rain later. Tomorrow is forecast to be rain for much of the day in my area.

Summer, I'm glad you had a nice meal and chat with SIL yesterday evening.

As from tomorrow when the new tax year starts, employers are entitled to get the first ÂĢ2,000 off their employers national insurance cost (employees contibutions continue). Employers who use payroll programs will need to check that the option in their software is set to get the ÂĢ2,000 before they start running the payroll.

I posted yesterday about the England women's cricket team could beat the men's team at this time. On the Radio 4 news this morning at 7.30 in the sport slot they actually made the same comment.

El Loro
Thank you El I must confess though, I pay an accountant to do my payroll for me. I'm sure I could use the software but feel more secure knowing it's all done correctly, and my lovely accountant keeps me informed of any important changes from the governments side of things too.
I would be horrified if I made any errors and ended up complicating things for the staff.

Guess what- the fog has lifted at long last!!!!!!! I'm very happy

I saw this article on my local news website.

MANY favourite first names from a century ago are at risk of dying out or are already extinct, new research has revealed.

Now extinct names that were among the most popular in 1905, include Gertrude, Bertha and Blodwen for girls and Willie, Cecil and Rowland for boys.

Names classified as 'endangered' include Horace, Leslie and Norman for boys and Doris, Hilda and Edna for girls.

Research carried out by Ancestry.co.uk studied birth records for 1905 and produced a 'top 100'.

They then compared the names to those on the 2012 baby name list from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the most recent data available.

The extinct names are those that did not appear on the 2012 lists at all.

Those names still being chosen, but significantly less common than they used to be - include Cyril, Arnold and Bernard for boys, plus Mildred, Dorothy and Lilian for girls.

However, many popular names from the early 20th Century remain popular in their shorter form.

Termed the ‘Alfie effect’, this trend has seen Freddie replace Frederick, Archie overtake Archibald and Charlie become more popular than Charles.

The same applies to girls’ names, with Lexi replacing Alexandra, Sophia making way for Sophie and Ellie overtaking Eleanor.

However, many of the most popular names of 1905 remain common today, such as Lily, Hannah and Lydia for girls and Alan, Patrick and Joe for boys.

FULL LIST OF EXTINCT AND MOST POPULAR NAMES

You may think this is the same music as used in the current Scottish Widows advert but that music was written specifically for the advert by Circle of Sound.

Haunting and melancholic describe it perfectly.

lol @ not telling Muriel she is extinct.

I've had a wonderful day with PB. She had been under the weather for a couple of days and was a bit sleepy in the morning, but after lunch she was back to normal. My middle son popped in to see her in the afternoon and they had a fun time, blowing raspberries at each other.

One of her books has a picture of a baby's face and she kept kissing it. It also has a picture of baby's feet and she sniffed them and screwed up her face.

She and Keira had a great time together - Keira kept bringing her toys for PB to play with. Fear not, I didn't let PB touch the dog toys.

Had a call from Dil. One of her staff has had a family bereavement and needs tomorrow off. At such short notice, she can't get anyone else to cover and will have to go in. So, I am minding PB again and am off for an early-ish night.

I hope you have had a good day, Summer.

Moonie, I notice you haven't been in tonight and hope your headache hasn't hung around.

Goodnight and sweet dreams, Summer, Moonie and Ros.

If you liked the first one then yes, you'd enjoy the next one. It's a little bit though because it's set both before and after the events of the first movie!
I'm pretty sure there will be a third one too.

Here's a question- where was Persia?
We know Greece still exists so I'm assuming the United Greek army fought off the Persian attack.. What's Persia now known as?

I have no idea where Persia is Sweet or if it exists now, though I suspect not

Well, it's a very long story moonie! It spans hundreds of years, many leaders and a whole lot of battles
The Persians failed to conquer Greece and we're later, invaded and conquered by Alexander the Great!
Ultimately though is seems that the empire was just too big to successfully rule as one, and fell apart. Gradually each region/country de-united and made their own way in the world...

Well researched Sweet

Moonie

Good morning everyone

Tiny bit of blue sky here but dwarfed by black threatening clouds. Looks as if it will be fairly wet quite a lot of the time today and tomorrow but dry from Tuesday.

Yogi, two PB days in a row, your cuddleometer could explode.

Summer, Yes, Iran is what Persia used to be. The Iranians had called the country Iran for a long time but it was called Persia in the west until 1935 when the west was requested to start calling the country Iran. Your summary of the fate of the Persian empire seems to neatly summarise 200 years of history

El Loro

Good morning everyone, I think our weather is similar to yours EL.  I loved your remark about Yogi's cuddleometer   What a lovely treat for you both Yogi, PB and you will have another lovely day to enjoy together.  She will really have lots of time to spend with her beloved nana (or are you Grandma?)

The bit about Persia's empire reminded me of some words from one of my favourite hymns 'The Day Thou Gavest Lord Has Ended'

So be it, Lord; thy throne shall never,
like earth's proud empires, pass away.
Thy kingdom stands, and grows forever,
till all thy creatures own thy sway.

Have a good day everyone off to wend my windswept and rained off way to church soon, catch you later.
