In that case, I'm guessing you won't be watching "Babylon" tonight, either...

Personally, it's a really good night on TV for me: new series of both "The Fall" and "Babylon", plus "Russell Howard's Good News".

Babylon looks like formulaic cop drama and from the trailers one to miss.

It's actually a satire. The pilot show (which was directed by co-creater Danny Boyle) was very funny. However, the Radio Times preview suggests that they've "rationed" the gags a bit for the series proper and concentrated more on the political and PR machinations.

Indeed! That's an hour I willn't get back. Mrs Jer insisted on watching it after seeing the first series. At the end of tonight's episode she was shouting at the tellybox. You would have thought it was my idea. (I suspect she couldn't remember some detail, and there was a lack of reminders) perhaps they should have had a "previously in the fall!" section.

What made you change your mind about it, Joe?  I remember you saying that you thought the first series was excellent and the best thing on the TV at the time

I'm a bit confused Joe: they did show a two minute-long "Previously" sequence at the start of the episode.

Same here; it's on every week but it's not holding my attention (also due to the Nesbitt factor).  I do like Ken Stott though and Diana Quick too so I'm at that half-watching stage.

A couple of other heads-ups:

For those still following "The Fall", note that the final episode on Thursday is 90 minutes long (though still starts at 9pm).

Also: I've just seen the trailer for the new series of "Spiral": "Coming soon" on BBC4!

I'm looking forward to the final episode of The Missing.

I loved the first series of The Fall, but the second series seems to have lost its way.

I haven't got a blooming clue - and I'm usually quite good at whodunnits! lol

I do think Mark, the policeman who is engaged to Emily, is dodgy, but I'm not sure if that's just because he (imo) preyed on her when she was at her most vulnerable.

Unless it's a complete red herring, I do think Monique might be Molly - although I've seen a theory that Vincent might be Molly after a sex change.

I'm going with a revenge kidnap for some dodgy dealing that James Nesbitt and his FiL were involved in.

As you can see, I'm clueless!

Oooh smart  thinking Yogi - you could well be right. Lots of those loose ends to be tied up .

Wonder what Eugene thinks...

I really can't see that happening: there would be a lot of angry viewers contacting the BBC!

This is what the writers have said:

The brothers said it was difficult to talk about whether any of the same characters would return in a second series without giving away the ending of this one.

Jack said: “All we can say is that this [series] will have closure to it â€Ķ I don’t want someone at the BBC to kill me!” Harry said they hoped viewers would feel like they have been on a journey.

The Williams brothers wanted to make sure their drama leaves viewers satisfied with the ending. “We don’t want people to leave feeling frustrated,” said Jack. “You do feel a responsibility. I hope people do enjoy the ending. I think it’s very true to the very first hour that you see.”

What I'd expect is what they appear to be doing with Broadchurch 2: a completely new story with some of the old characters (probably the detectives).

At the risk of sounding like I'm copping-out: I'm just enjoying the ride!

If I had to put money on it, I'd go for Alain Deloix (the hotel owner and mayor's brother   ) , who I've been suspicious of since the beginning. However the ending of episode 7 might suggest Alain being a recovered alcoholic is a red herring...

I might be a bit disappointed if it is Alain (a little too obvious and clichÃĐd), but then I went through all this with "The Killing": I had a  guess at the killer's identity after the first double-episode, and I remember thinking at the time that I'd be very disappointed if I was to sit through another 18 hours of TV only to discover it was the obvious suspect. In the end, though, when it turned out I'd been spot on, I realized I wasn't bothered after all: journey rather than destination, you see...
