Tomorrow, the second part of The Bridge, MOTD2 and prob the FL show on catch up. I suspect that Mrs Jer will want to watch that dreadful Carry on Midwife though but.

I record The Bridge and will do the same with Call The Midwife. Does CTM start this Sunday?

The next series of Only Connect is sometime in the spring on BBC4. The series after that will move to BBC2 and will be later in 2014.

In 2013, there was a series which started on 13 May, and another one which started on 23 September. As applications for the next series can be made up to the end of February a start date of mid May seems likely.

Hrrmph.    I might just go for P.C.

I'll happily take all any of them!

You're as greedy as Baz!

have you watched it?  I've not seen it yet.

Baz still has the crown but I'm getting there

Yes, I watched it - and drooled.

Oh, i know Joe ... I am sure that it bought back memories for lots of people watching

The one thing that didn't ring true for me was that she seemed too 'well' to want to die right then. She'd been downstairs, lifted a baby, ironed a shirt. I just felt that she would want to go on for a bit longer.

However, every time I expressed this opinion last night my friend who was watching it with me keep referring me back to the Hailey/Harold dilema.

I have no experience of that, so I conceded to the scriptwiters and thought they all made a cracking job of it.

I agree with your friend.   If it was the pain, she (the character) would have probably gone on a bit longer, but she knew she needed to increase the pain relief and didn't want to be 'out of it' and possibly back thinking she was Harold when she died.     I thought they did well and as I was reading (think it was in the Mail online) they didn't make it too mawkish an episode, like a Easties two hander - although I'm sure Julie and David could have done it well - but they showed life going on as normal all around the street in between scenes, and cut away after she'd started drinking the cocktail of drugs.  Made it all the more poignant I think.

I've been thinking about the Hayley/Harold thing.

The way I see it, Hayley was always Hayley on the inside, and was only Harold on the outside. She could never 'return' to being Harold because he never really existed. However, I think she was frightened that she would become confused due to meds and relive the painful times when she was forced to live as Harold.

That makes sense in my head but I'm not so sure it makes sense in print.

No, that's what I meant..  when her friend was dying she was talking about happy times with her husband, and Hayley didn't want to go back to a time in her life when she thought she was still 'Harold' on the outside and so unhappy.

Utterly riveting.

Pretty sure Series 1 was 20 episodes.

Series 2 and 3 were 10 episodes each.

(Series 1 was actually 2 seasons, but they were run together on the BBC.)

Maybe the last ones are filler.

Five DVD'S and the first two are six eps each.

Agree with this comment but want to point out Spiral came first on UK TV I think. It was the worthy trailblazer for this type of foreign import. But I agree with Carport. The Bridge is the best of the lot.

I would never watch stuff like this before..... like I've never watched Embarrassing bodies... but i got sucking into this a couple of weeks ago. Probably after watching BB and nattering on here with it still on. I feel so sorry for the people (as stupid as some of them are to begin with) and find myself needing to know how they are in the end.

Meant to post a heads-up earlier:

It's a crime thriller frenzy tonight! There's the second series of "Line of Duty" on BBC2, and "Suspects", a semi-improvised crime drama on C5. Both have had promising previews. Even tonight's episode of "Inside No 9" (which I thought was pretty good last week) concerns a robbery.

The TV recorder's going to be working overtime tonight...

I stopped watching it and switched over to a doc about drugs smuggling into Europe.

I was interested in the soundtrack as I saw it in HMV the other day for ÂĢ5.99 so was listening so as to determine e if it is a purchase or not.

TBF it's not a good idea for me to start watching a film when I have to get up at 6am. I don't fully concentrate on it as I'm getting things together for work.

I think I will give the film another go as they will repeat it on Film4.

More4 on Tuesdays, I think   Definitely repeated though during the week....

Great Canal Journeys.

It's a docu about Timothy West and Prunella Scales and their trips along various UK canals.  It's not exactly taxing or high drama but it's a nicely gentle tv show with a little bit of personality thrown in.

I like it; and it doesn't make me grumpy

 Great description

FM

The Shetland programme is making me want to take a trip to Scotland for a short break. I've been to Edinburgh three times but always a flying visit.

As we have lots of Scottish FM's on here has anyone got any recommendations for a long weekend? I'm guessing that golf would probably need to be factored in although it's not a 100% pre requisite.

Soozy Woo

I haven't read the posts, so kick me if I repeat something but has anybody watched The Plantagenets on BBC2? I'm a total history buff and this series is fantastic. I thought I knew quite a bit about British history, but boy was I wrong. It all starts to make so much more sense as well. Great programme, great entertainment.

Edit: As for Shetland, bloody brilliant.

Troon on the west coast is good for golf, but if you really want to see the best of Scotland you need at least a week going to the Western Highlands (and maybe cross over to Skye). God's own country.

Yes its great Cologne - the presenter really pulls it all together. I knew some of the names but had no idea where exactly they fitted into history, or how the regions in france were relevant etc.

FM

Yes I'm enjoying the Plantagenets ............never knew how the name came about until I saw this. I feel incredibly ignorant TBh - I only really knoe from the Tudors onwards - whenever I go to France and there's mention of the Anglo/French history I have to admit to being a bit of a dummy. This series is putting everything in place. I caught the end of the Robin Hood film (2010) with Russell Crow **swoon** on TV last night - I understood it a bit better.

Shameful to be so ignorant of our own country's history

Further details.

It's called Monkey Planet and last night was episode 2.

The link on iPlayer is http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/e...net_Meet_the_Family/

Synopsis below picture.

Our primate family is incredibly varied and surprising. From the ninja tarsier, a spring-loaded ambush predator the size of a tennis ball, to the magnificant herds of geladas in the mountains of Ethiopia, primates have adapted to environments across the planet.

In this episode, Dr George McGavin gets up close and personal with Siswi, an orangutan who uses soap to improve her personal hygiene. He strips off to experience the mind-numbing cold of the Japanese Alps, and heads 100 metres underground to a secluded monkey dormitory.

Then there are baboons with a thirst for flamingo flesh; macaques with criminal minds; fluorescent mandrills who wear war paint to do battle; and Ardry, a real-life gremlin who sees the unseeable with her extraterrestrial fingers.
