I knew he would love his gift and his cake.

I've had a good day thanks, and it has been wet and windy up here, too.

Good morning everyone

I'm off out soon to see if this time they sort out the front windscreen heating. It could be as simple as fuse number 32 having blown (I think that is the one which covers the passenger side front windscreen heating) but there may be an underlying reason why it blew so it's not just a case of replacing it.

Fairly cloudy but dry and less windy than yesterday.

Good morning everyone.  Glad you are having such a good time in the lakes Summer and that Mr Summer is enjoying his gift and his cake too (I'm always looking down the wrong end of binoculars too )

Good luck with the car EL, hope its just a simple blown fuse.

Hello to velvet glad to see you in our thread so often nowadays

They've had a look at the windscreen heating problem and it isn't a blown fuse. It is probably a break in one of the embedded heating wires in the windscreen and it is obviously impossible to repair that so it looks as if either I put up with it or get a replacement windscreen. That will be fairly expensive as a heated one is bound to be more expensive than an unheated one. There is a chip in the windscreen which, although not bad enough to make the car fail the MOT, makes me think I might be better to go for a replacement.

Good morning everyone. The sun is shining up here.

Tumble dryer has gone kaput so we are trawling through Currys, Asda, Tesco wesites, looking for a replacement. Mr Yogi's car is in the garage and we are sure it is not going to be good news. I fear this is going to be an expensive month.

I hope you get your car fixed and it doesn't cost too much, El.

Oh dear isn't it awful when you just think you are getting straight and things like this crop up?

Will your windscreen be covered by insurance maybe EL? Faint hope I know but we pay enough in insurance and sometimes it feels like a one way street.

Hope you manage to bag a bargain Yogi, is it worth checking out Amazon too for the tumble dryer?  I find them very reliable.  I hope the car is not too expensive to fix.

No! that's scandalous!

Yogi glad you got the tumble dryer sorted so quickly

All 5 books are now in the post, further details in our special cookbook dialogue

Well done, squiggle

I've now arranged for the windscreen to be replaced. It's a mobile service so he will come here on Monday morning and it will cost me ÂĢ195 which isn't too bad considering it's a heated one rather than an unheated one.

I was a bit shocked by the insurance item on Watchdog last night. The business with an enquiry being treated as if it was a claim is scandalous and applies to house insurance as well. It's all to do with the CUE database of insurance claims. (Claims and Underwriting Exchange site) For a fee of ÂĢ10 you can get details from them of what information they hold on you in terms of claims made.

I'm in the rather silly position of having to take my grandson back to Exeter for his follow up appointment where they will probably remove his cast, he cannot remember the time of the appointment and the hospital won't tell me because of the Freedom of Information Act.  So I have no idea what time to set off, anyone got any clues as to how I get round this one?

Yogi its the same old problem we always encounter they do not have a landline so I have to make all those calls.  But the good news is I looked up the direct booking number for the hospital on the internet (rather than go through the switchboard) and she told me the time of the appointment without hesitation.  I think that Freedom of Information Act business can be taken too far at times.

Agreed.

Our house insurance is in my name (although they have been repeatedly told to put it in joint names) and I always have to give permission for Mr Yogi to speak to them - it's ridiculous.

It's the same with Virgin, which is in hubby's name. They will only speak to me if I want to report a fault. I can't make any changes to the services - even when I quote the password which Virgin set up for us so that I could call them, too.

You're right, it would be funny if it wasn't so .

I don't know when it changed, but at one time women could not legally buy something on HP unless a man gave a personal guarantee. I seem to remember my mother saying that my dad had to sign the agreement as she wasn't allowed to. It was only in 1970 that a woman could get a mortgage in her own name.

It's good to know that some things have changed for the better.

Evening I'm night night-owling but have finally caught up Crumbs, El, I'm shocked about the watchdog thing, I had no idea. I'm very glad I do now though, thank you. I'm glad you got a new windscreen arranged, and that it wasn't too expensive, I too have a heated windscreen and would have thought it be about ÂĢ450 for a replacement! Squiggle I'm glad you got your grandson's appointment resolved, I hope all went well thank you for sending out the cook books Yogi, hope you enjoy your BB catch up, I totally forgot it was on! I keep thinking it's Saturday night Sweet dreams all I'm back home now, the lakes were stunning, we had a fantastic trip
~Sparkling Summer~

Good morning everyone

Summer, if I had gone for an original Ford windscreen I would probably have paid something like ÂĢ400, but as my car is 9 years old I chose the cheaper option. Also my windscreen wipers are not automatic - I think that if they had been automatic the windscreen would have been more expensive.

I'm glad you had a great time

We have comprehensive car insurance and repairing chips on the windscreen is covered, without losing our No Claims Bonus. Not sure if heated windsceens would be included - maybe you should check your insurance details.

Good morning everyone.

Why do Insurance companies hold all the cards?!
