@~Sparkling Summer~

Self employed income support scheme is now live.

How to claim

The online service is now available. Make your claim from the date we gave you.

If you’re unable to claim online you should contact HMRC for help.

If you receive texts, calls or emails claiming to be from HMRC, offering financial help or a tax refund and asking you to click on a link or to give personal information, it is a scam. You should email it to phishing@hmrc.gov.uk and then delete it.

As of a few minutes ago over 110,000 people have made claims for the self-employed income support claim - typica' grant is around Β£3k though the amount can be anything up to Β£7,500. Covers March, April and May.
No announcement yet as to if the scheme will be extended as announced yesterday for the furlough scheme.

That’s a lot of claims El

There's nearly 5 million self employed people in the country, Moonie, Although not all of them would qualify for a claim, not everyone who qualifies will claim. For instance I would qualify but my income hasn't been wrecked in the way that it has for many so it would be wrong for me to claim.
I don't know how many will claim but it's likely to be over a million so 110,000 so far isn't that surprising to me

Thanks for the information El. I understand it more now

Good morning it’s sunny out and I’m having a cuppa outside how are you all? I’ve been in a funk but I’m ok again now, I’ve accepted that I can’t control the fact that I’ll be off work until at least July, I can only go with the flow. I’ve found a craft project for rainy days too

El, thank you for the updates. I managed to log in and check my eligibility, I had to get my passport info and all sorts, but after that it was quick. They say I am eligible and I can claim from tomorrow.
I am on universal credit at the moment, so I will notify them when I receive the income support money. We get UC on the 24th, I don’t think I’d feel right delaying my application to claim income support in order to keep the UC payment. I’ll just do it and then notify them. I’m also getting a council tax relief too, I don’t have to pay it while I’m on UC.
while I was on the government site, out of curiosity I checked my pension forecast for the first time ever. Seeing a date felt strange! I can’t imagine hairdressing until I’m 68, so I’m going to need a change of job at some point in the future

Summer, i'm glad you are feeling more like yourself
Good that you've found a craft project for those rainy days

Thanks I had emailed all clients who were potentially able to make claims and copied that over here. I had previously advised them to set up a government gateway account if they didn't already have one as I knew that they would need to provide some form of proof of identity as part of the process.

@~Sparkling Summer~When you make the claim tomorrow, one of the questions which will be asked is for you to supply the address associated with your bank account. I had a client ring me as she was puzzled by that question. Was it the bank address or was it her home address? It is your home address which your bank uses, not their address. The reason they ask the question is so that they know it's for someone living in this country, not abroad.

I've amended your post to remove the year you turn 68 as anyone in the world could work out your date of birth from that

Just had an email from HMRC which they've sent to all tax agents such as myself.

Apparently some agents have been claiming the self-employment income support claims on behalf of their clients. Agents have their own government gateway account which is not the same as for taxpayers.

HMRC has warned that doing this triggers a fraud alert as it looks as if someone other than the taxpayer is making the claim. Result is delays in the taxpayer getting the money and having to contact HMRC to get it sorted out.

We agents were told by HMRC not to claim on behalf of clients but it seems that some still tried to claim.

No, I'm not one of them - I had told clients that I couldn't do this for them nearly 2 weeks ago

Coming soon to Amazon on Blu ray "The Great Buster".
Cast includes Frank Capra, Dick Van Dyke, Mel Brooks, Quentin Tarantino and Orson Welles.

I haven't checked but I think it probable that that's the only Blu ray/DVD ever released with that cast

I should explain that it's a documentary about Buster Keaton and includes interviews with those people over the years.

El, you chosen occupation is turning into a minefield

At the present time I've been keeping a watch on the "Latest from HM Revenue & Customs" for the documents they publish during the day. The vast majority of documents are irrelevant for me. I can tell from the title of the document if it could be relevant so only need to read a few.

I could wait to be sent emails of relevant publications from HMRC or my institute. That would be easier but would mean several days delay. I prefer to be proactive rather than reactive as I like to keep clients informed as soon as possible particularly in these times. It's easier for me than for a lot of accountants as I don't have lots and lots of clients.

League 2 season in football ended. Table to be set to be decided using a points-per-game method, but promotion and relegation are not finalised. It is understood League Two clubs want to use a weighted points-per-game system to finalise the table, which takes into account the average points won both home and away.

There are still plans for the play-offs to take place as usual, with two-legged semi-finals and then a final.

Crewe, Swindon and Plymouth would be promoted. The 4th promotion place is undecided. If there are no play-offs then it would be either Exeter or Cheltenham to get the 4th place - that depends on how the points per game method is calculated. It would be very close but I think Cheltenham would be fractionallly ahead. Can't get very excited though as anything could happen.

That’s a complicated method El but I guess however it’s done rather than by actually playing is bound to be complicated

Here's the league 2 table as it stands split between home and away games:
https://footystats.org/england...me-away-league-table

The home games show Cheltenham and Exeter both having played 18 games with Cheltenham on 38 points and Exeter on 37 points - Cheltenham's goal difference is +18 compared ti Exeter + 16.

The away games show Exeter has played 19 games on 28 points compared to Cheltenham 18 games on 26 points. Cheltenham's goal difference is much better than Exeter's.

So the combined table has Exeter on 65 points after 37 games ahead of Cheltenham om 64 points after 36 games.

One way to calculate the effect of what would be the table if both sides had played the same number of games is to adjust Cheltenham's away record for the one less game. That works out at 26 points/18 games C has played x 19 games E has played which works out at 27.444 points. The combined table would then have Cheltenham on 65.444 points compared to Exeter on 65. As you can see Cheltenham is fractionally ahead. There are other ways to do the calculations but mine is the simplest.
