Good morning all

A cloudy day, up here.
There are ants in my house!!! In all the years we have lived here, this is the first time we have had ants in the house. Strangely, they are in the hall, where there is no food. I hate ants, this means war!!

Have a good day and stay safe, everyone

Oh, heck Yogi

I hope you manage to get rid of the ants soon

Moonie

Hectic day for me workwise. HMRC now have an online tool for their self-employment income support scheme which they launched today. People can check to see if they are potentially able to male a claim and register their contact details via that online tool. Doesn't say how much the grant is, that will be in the letter HMRC sends.

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/cl...ncome-support-scheme

has details about this.

Claim system not yet launched but I think the ability to claim will be spread over a few days from 13 May. That is presumably to stop a huge number of people trying to make claims all at the same time.

So I've been letting clients know about this today.

Thanks Moonie I think a lot of accountants have been doing much the same as I have - keeping clients informed on a regular basis to keep them informed. Advising them to set up a government gateway account whilst we wait for the scheme to go live. Some of my clients will have government gateway accounts anyway but quite a few won't. As I do their tax returns, they won't necessarily have set up such an account.

We were thinking that agents might be able to claim on behalf of clients (which is the case for the furlough grant claims) but HMRC decided against that for the self-employment income support claims. That was only announced by HMRC on Friday so that's why it's been a hectic Friday and Monday for me.

Your most welcome El

Good morning everyone

A lovely sunny start to the day

Squiggle, I think you are right about the ants sending out advance party scouts.
I am happy to report there was not a single ant in the hall this morning so I am hopeful that the gel has worked but I shall continue to put it down for a few days, just to be sure.
Have a good day and stay safe, everyone
