I think a lot of accountants have been doing much the same as I have - keeping clients informed on a regular basis to keep them informed. Advising them to set up a government gateway account whilst we wait for the scheme to go live. Some of my clients will have government gateway accounts anyway but quite a few won't. As I do their tax returns, they won't necessarily have set up such an account.
We were thinking that agents might be able to claim on behalf of clients (which is the case for the furlough grant claims) but HMRC decided against that for the self-employment income support claims. That was only announced by HMRC on Friday so that's why it's been a hectic Friday and Monday for me.
