Presumably email address that you're registered with and IP address?

I think that the only 'personal information' that gaga have is your email address, (and many on here, and many other forums, use a yahoo one or hotmail one that would probably not one that includes their real name.)

Also, they would almost definitely have your i.p. address.  So they can tell that you're from the west side of Wolvo or several miles from Albert Docks in Liverpool or whatever, but not your EXACT address.  My i.p. address actually states I am about 10 miles away from where I actually live.    I think that every website like this would have that.  Even when I had a piczo account back in the day (maybe 7 years back!) I saw peoples i.p. addresses when they posted.  It's a security thing: in case people get aggressive or threatening or abusive, and also so you can re-ban them if they keep returning .

That said, only the head admin (I would imagine) would be privy to that.  Not any additional mods that are picked from here.  Even so, it still makes me very uneasy, ANYone from here being a mod.  As many have said, virtually EVERYone has had some beef with someone here at some point.

BTW, Ted hasn't been back here since her started this thread.

Thanks Supes.

Do they have access to Dialogues, too, as that could be a big issue for any FMs who have shared personal info via dialogues?

Yogi, I don't think the current mods (Rosemary Ted Dave OR Lori) are privy to them...  I think that is the same anywhere.  (that is on most other forums too... It would be very rare for the mods or even admin to have access to your private messages.....)  The only time they would see them is if you got an abusive one and they asked you to forward it to them (I am pretty sure of this, but I think we need it clarifying for sure.)

Thanks Cupcake. It would be good if Ted could come back and clear up some of the issues raised.

Baz, you're quite entitled to feel like that  And as I said, I would think any mods appointed, if it WAS someone from here, would not have access to anything about you.  They would probably have the ability to delete posts if someone was abusive and/or report posts/posters for naughtiness.

I still am worried about who would be picked though, and I am sorry to say that I wouldnt pick anyone for reasons I have stated and other people have stated too.....  And if it were someone from here; as I said, I would be concerned, because of past history.  There are a couple of posters on this site who I actively avoid and post around and ignore constantly, and they do bait me - though I do ignore them,...  And if THEY became mods, I may well ask to be deregged.  And I do NOT want to do that.

That sounds fair enough to me, Baz. For the same reason as you gave above, I set up an email address which doesn't have my real name in it and I only use it for here. I have another one with my real name which I use for everything else.

and i have never , ever heard of a mod or admin being able to see  members  private messages, the only way they could  that would be to suspend(not ban) a member and whilst they are suspened, use their user name to reset the passowrd, which would allow them into  that members account.(even then 'im not sure it would work)

then they would have to reset the password  before the suspended person logged back in.

i think...

I honestly don't think that you need to worry about mods having access to pms or email addresses. I have modded another forum as I said and occasionally help out on a footie one but only when the main mod is away.

All you have the privileges to do, is to remove abusive posts and issue warnings, decisions about banning are usually reserved for the board hierarchy. Of course it depends on what privileges you are given

Honestly, guys, the only worry is about bias - and looking sensibly, I'm sure that anyone could appeal to Lori and co if they felt they had been discriminated against.

That being said, I'm still against the idea

Thanks for the info, Veggie and I'm still against the idea, too.

Whilst I'm not at all keen on the idea of FMs as mods, I expect that when we first came here that they were expecting the forum to be much busier than it has become, more reflective of the traffic on the C4 forum and therefore economically viable. I suspect that that is no longer the case and presumably the rationale behind Ted's suggestion, so, if people want it to continue, then maybe we can't dismiss the idea out of hand?

I agree  surely there is someone here that most people get along with and would be fair to everyone

That would be good Aimee, I'm sure that there are plenty on here who could be fair if they were doing the 'job' although I'm not seeing too many volunteers so far!

I think there could possibly be a few people who would want the post but, having seen the reaction on here to the suggestion, are reluctant to stick their heads above the parapet.

Ha Ha that would be interesting Avalon : Have you got the hide of a rhinoceros? Are you one of those people who, however well you do your job, can deal with some saying that you are carp at it?  Can you cope with the fact that, whatever you do and no matter how hard you try, you will always be accused of bias?

Come to think about it, there are lots of managerial jobs where that is implied in the person spec!
