Lori doesn't seem to have mentioned this but I've found out that there's to be another forum system update some time today. I don't know when or if this forum will be out of action for any length of time.

Change 1 If you want to change the email address used to log in, the change will now be a 2 step process. An email will be sent to both the old address and the new address. The one sent to the old address will have the option to cancel the change. That is to stop someone else trying to hijack your account.
Both emails will have the option to verify the change. If you don't do anything, the change of address will go through automatically after 72 hours.

Change 2 The Activity stream (accessed from Activiity in the top menu) will cease to be as it's not used much by people.

Change 3. The Topics list page as well as the list of forums is to change to be closer to be closer in appearance to the Home page.  The administrator (Lori) will be able to control what details are shown. This could be quite a major change. @Lori  should be able to go into more detail than I can,

Hi, all:

Yes, sorry I didn't mention it--I initially thought it would be a small enough update that it would hardly be noticeable, but the forum page change I just found out about yesterday. To me, it looks more like it did before the "card mode" change we did, but I'll be interested to see what you guys think. I'm guessing the other changes that El Loro mentioned won't impact you all much?

Any outage will be minimal, sounds like--so minimal that we are just doing it "sometime today", and not during a specific time frame. That just means that you may encounter a little blip in service, and then it will be fine.

I'll check in after the update to see if anything needs tweaking.

Also, I love that Baz is administering tough love.

Thanks Lori

If there's any new replies on a topic there's a bell symbol by the title so click on that to get there.

At this time under each topic title, it shows the latest 3 replies with the most recent first. Unless the reply is very short such as an emoticon there's a [more]. Click on that [more] and you'll get to that reply. So that's how to get to the last reply quickly if there's no bell symbol.

Can't say I like it one bit as it's giving me a headache looking at it

@Baz if you are on the home page you'll see the most recent topics at the top. If you want to read the whole topic, you click the "read more" button, but the most recent replies are already there for you, without having to click it. Then click the [more] link to go to that last reply.

Does that help?

I have just sussed that before coming here

Thank Lori ....but I never go to the home page .....

Part of the problem is that previously one could find a particular topic quickly. A list of topics might be a couple of screens per page. Now you have to scroll through 22/23 screens per page. If you reduce the number of replies shown it reduces the number of screens to scroll though but then you lose the ability to click on a [More] to get through to the last reply.

Though even if the number of lines was reduced down to 1 line there would still be a lot of screens to scroll through. And the [More] is essential to be available where there's no bell symbol to signify unread replies.

I may be wrong, but I get the impression that the bell, works in the same way as the orange 'NEW' disc did. If it's there then clicking on it takes you to YOUR last red post..........and if there's no bell then that means there are no new and unread posts!

The order that the FM names are under the thread title signify last post/2nd last post etc so clicking on the 1st name takes you to the end of the thread. So, it's the same as the tiny avatars that we had previously.

Clicking on the thread title takes you to the start of the thread.

Thus it looks pretty much as it was before , just with new wrapping paper!
