The Pneumococcal vaccination is available via the NHS, but it is only free of charge to those in the following high-risk categories: Babies under 2 years old. Adults over the age of 65. People with long term health conditions such as chronic kidney or heart disease.
The flu inhaler is a way of having the flu mist (a variation of the vaccine)....either a bit like an asthma inhaler or an oxygen mask.

I’ve never been offered one Slim ….and I’m well over 65 ….but my husband did I think , because of his copd  ….not that it did him much good .

I found this Baz...

People aged 65 and over only need a single pneumococcal vaccination. This vaccine is not given annually like the flu jab. If you have a long-term health condition you may only need a single, one-off pneumococcal vaccination, or a vaccination every 5 years, depending on your underlying health problem.

I don’t think I’ve had one Slim…but I might be wrong ….I know I had the shingles one a couple of years ago . …

Data from the UK Health Security Agency show there have been thousands more deaths than the five-year average in heart failure, heart disease, circulatory conditions and diabetes since the summer.

The number of deaths in private homes is also 40.9 per cent above the five-year average, with 964 excess deaths recorded in the most recent week, which runs up to November 5.

Kevin McConway, emeritus professor of applied statistics at The Open University, said: “Numbers of deaths from all causes do usually increase at this time of year, but the total number remains above the average for the corresponding week in the five years 2015 to 2019.

“So, on that definition, we still have excess deaths, as we have had for 18 straight weeks now, and not all those excess deaths are due to Covid-19.

“And we’re still seeing considerable excess numbers of deaths in people’s own homes, compared to the 2015-19 average, with most of those deaths not involving Covid-19.

“In the most recent week, there were 891 excess deaths at home that did not involve Covid-19 – that’s about 127 a day.”

If it’s any consolation I wasn’t offered one either Renton, and I’m even posher than you . I love the idea of a flu inhaler  though .

Baz,you can get a pneumonia jab at the docs if you say you want one…….when I went for the flu jab she checked my notes and apparently I’ve had it……must have been when I had one of my ops,but I had no idea🤣

Mum had Pfizer 6 days ago and had a sudden severe headache yesterday and feeling lightheaded tonight.

It's worrying cos there's no way to tell if it's the jab or something else

If you're worried Saint....maybe call 111 and speak to someone, they'll advise you

There is no way she would allow anyone to visit unless she's at deaths door. And 111 are useless - I've used them loads at work and every time they say it's best to go to hospital which is not an option at the moment.

She getting bloods done by community nurse soon cos she's started some antibiotics so I'll ask them to check her BP too.

It’s probably nothing but I would get that checked out. Dont think Pfizer have had the issue with blood clots that other jabs have but it doesn’t hurt to check.

She's on blood thinners - Rivaroxaban

Could it be side effects from these?

I hope she is feeling a bit better today Renton …..try not to worry too much …it probably is just a side effect of the jab ….but yes, mention  it to the community nurse when she comes .

UPDATE - she's fine . . . .and relax (but it's a constant worry cos tomorrow it will be something else)

This morning said she felt really good - so I'm hoping it was antibiotics or jab (or bit of both)

Thank you all for your concern - it's heartwarming to know x

The first one did hurted very much - second one was fine - that's 2 jec-shuns in 6 months when previously it has been none since I was 22yrs old when i gotta piece of glass in my hand - they asked me to lay down, then lay my hand on a lil table. And then ... and this is 100% true - the nurse pinned my shoulders down and said "This might hurt". The doctor pushed a needle through my hand - that hurt soooo much - when he finished getting the glass out my hand was dripping with blood.

Lovely memory LOL

I had my Moderna jab today. In the words of John Major, "It hurt - it worked"

I went to Gosforth, quite a nice area but there was a huge queue outside a tiny pharmacy and it was freezing so off to Balliol Business Park, rather grim, faceless office area with pretty hedging (why do they always have lovely hedges?)

Went into a non-descript place you're likely to have a 'business' interview. I asked the receptionist if they had a childcare specialist, she looked perplexed then asked if i was scared. She doesn't know me does she? After waiting thirty years i was called over to a mini cubicle. She asked me lots of questions then asked if wanted to ask anything, I said, "Just treat me like a 5yr old boy, ok" I could see her smirking

She said I just needed to relax and I said, "Tell me when you're going to do it - just tell me when, ok"

She said, "You want to know" ... BAM !!!! She shoved that little bugger in, mid sentence!! I jumped for England!!

"I see what you did there, mid sentence when i wasn't tense" . . . . and I remember her face too

Arm aching, reputation in tact (cos I was wearing a mask) I drove off into the Newcastle sunset.

Arm is aching I must admit and i was brave cos my heart wasn't beating fast at all - how strange

Apparently they're not offering Astra Zenica jabs as boosters due to blood clot fears. Anyone else read that?

Saint

BBC website

People who are under 40 or pregnant are being offered Pfizer or Moderna rather than Oxford-AstraZeneca, because of a possible connection with extremely rare cases of blood clots.

Under-18s are currently being offered Pfizer, although the Moderna vaccine has also been authorised for use in children.

Most boosters will be one dose of Pfizer or a half-dose of Moderna, regardless of which jab you initially received.

Yes, I read something along those lines Renton .

Baz

Blood clots first appeared in people who had contracted Covid and long before any of the vaccines had been made.

Personally I feel that the clots that some people  have developed after the vaccine are people who would have developed clots if they had caught Covid and the immune reaction that the vaccine has stimulated has just triggered the clotting response, but that the clots are not a direct response to the vaccine.

If the vaccine was causing clots then I think more people would be getting them.

Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing

Mr Fluffy had his booster and flu jabs today = no grumbles so far!

Because he's only a few weeks home from hospital, a nurse came to the house to administer the jabs, but couldn't do me as well!

Glad Mr EFFT had his jab , but how stupid that she couldn’t do yours while she was there !

Baz

They've already put the 6 most southerly South African countries on the RED list, but not implementing full restrictions until Monday, as far as I'm aware!

How ridiculous is that EFFT ….they’ve not learnt anything have they ….they should have implemented it immediately imo !

Ditto Renton …..I hate it , but I’m too scared. I have been in a local shop twice out of necessity …it terrified me. I really miss going to the library , I used to go nearly every week, and I helped out with the kids summer reading weeks too.  I also miss my weekly trips to the spa for a massage etc. It wasn’t so bad during Spring and Summer cos I went out for a walk 4/5 times a week …..but now the weather has turned I can’t even do that very often ….like you say, it’s a terrible state of affairs.

I dont think this has gone away Baz

Right now I think my local hospital is Raigmore. That's Inverness. Nice scenery though.

I don’t either Velvet ….I think we are in for yet another rough few months .
