@Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing

At some point (amongst all the other advice) I heard that all over 70's (my Mum) should self isolate for 12 weeks.

I'm not going out for at least 3 months - i might infect her!!

And yet we have elderly (nosy) neighbours one has COPD and another has Diabetes - both go out EVERY day !!!

The 12 weeks is a bit random. We do that and then what? They reckon that's when this damned virus will be at it's peak         A virus  I'm convinced came out a biological lab.

I see!

The thing about the over 70 has not been officially instigated yet. Last I heard 'they would be told SOON' but I've heard that a few times now and it still hasn't happened!

Boris still has this 'bee-in-his-bonnet@ about herd immunity and 'pushing it back' to warmer weather which should weaken it (the virus).

Testing is a joke, 10,000. What is the point in mostly testing ill people in hospital? Get out there - South Korea tested 250000. The whole thing's a farce, front line staff with no masks or gowns, no ventilators, no beds, no ICU's, no NHS staff etc. The government had months to prepare for this. It makes you sick.

I'm not confident that the news from the Gov & Supermarkets is entirely true. The shelves in my local supermarkets are remaining empty and other food items are starting to disappear. some of the smaller shops look like they are closing down.

No tinned soup now and the chocolate isle is looking threadbare.

People videoing it on their phones!

Enthusiastic Contrafibularities

It's not just a question of whether one can buy 2 or 20 of a particular item it's also a logistic question, of how quickly and easily the supply chain can replace the massive volume of goods that have been removed.

The chain works on the basis of a regular and even amount of goods movement. If that number suddenly increases hugely then there is going to be a delay in supply.

Well I've just read something to that effect on today's 'Live Reporting' pages. Just for London for now.

It was covered on BBC2's "Newsnight" last night.

The military always have around 12,000 available as a reserve for emergencies (e.g. the recent floods), but that's being upped to 20,000 under the current circumstances. The army were making it clear last night that what they're currently looking at is providing skills such as drivers and what's called "Command and Control" - the example given on Newsnight was the recent talk of using hotels as temporary hospitals: the army would help in organizing that if needed.

I've a colleague at work who's in the TA, and I was casually discussing it with him recently, mentioning the "Green Goddesses" used during the firemen's strike, which he's too young to remember  . I asked if he'd been approached for call-up; he said no, and that they were going to be more interested in specialists such as medical staff and drivers anyway (the latter's a bit of a sore point with him at the moment, as he was meant to go on an army HGV training course last month, but had to cancel as his doctor screwed up the necessary medical certification.   )

Boris is a soundbite popularist politician who can't step up in a true hour of need because he just hasn't got it in him.  He can study Churchill as much as he likes and try to ape Churchill's mannerisms but he just doesn't have it in his soul.

Bozo's idiots were the only government entertaining "herd immunity".  Presumably to protect business as the Tories always put private profit before public welfare.  The science didn't "change".  From the outset, every country and every global body said it was nonsense and warned herd immunity would lead to over 220,000 deaths.  Herd immunity is based on having critical number of vacinated population as well as those with immunity.  It's elementary!  Bozo doesn't 'get' the basics!

The only way Boris can be dragged from ideological stupidity is when his position becomes just untenable.  He hasn't 'followed the science' he's conceded only when to do anything else would be obvious to all - negligent.

The local Sainsbury's superstore was almost empty, I expected a few bare aisles but had no idea it would be as bad as it was.  I don't often shop in Sainsbury's as it's quite a drive but thought I'd check it out this evening.  It was like a scene from a post-apocalypse film when the zombies have taken over.  Quite surreal.

We often get a 'big shop' every month or two. Fortunately (for us) our last 'big shop' was just before all the panic buying kicked off and everything we ordered was delivered. However topping up the perishables (which sane people know you can't hoard with any real degree of success) is getting difficult. Hopefully, now that the supermarkets have introduced rationing, it'll give the supply chain a chance to catch up and reasonably soon there'll be enough for everybody. So I'm sitting here with fairly well stocked fridge, freezer and cupboards, but almost afraid to eat any of it in case things get a lot worse before they get better!

Went to my local farm shop again today (it only opens on Fridays and Saturdays) I went at 8am hoping to avoid the crowds. There were quite a few people already there, younger people say in 20/30 year old category not respecting social distancing at all. After about 10 minutes more and more people kept piling in grabbing stuff. Ted the farmer was on the till and he muttered I cant cope with this and shouted "Go back to Lidle where you normally shop!" made me laugh. I shop in both but Lidle is in town and I'm not going back there as its carnage and townies are harder than us rural types and much more physical . I bought a load of stuff to make into ready meals....hope I get some customers now or I wont be able to pay the bills

FB announces where food etc is available but we can’t get there quick enough, went to Tesco this morning and got a few bits but there are restrictions, there are plenty of people offering help but if the groceries aren’t there it’s not much use, we only shop once a week or fortnightly, we never stockpiled and are now suffering because of people’s selfishness and greed, on the plus side we managed to get a sack of potatoes from the local farm shop so chips it is!

machel

Once we have our 'Big Shop' delivered (or soon after) we usually book another one for some weeks later. However...…. no bread, no milk, no cereal. no butter. no eggs, no fruit, in short, no perishables!

It's transmitted through people coming into contact and then putting their hands on their faces,it enters through mouth, noses, ears and eyes....so keep the distance ,wash your hands a lot and then keep them off your face.....that's what he told me

I heard some expert on the radio say it can stay in the air for two hours. Who knows - answer no one.

no its not airbourne but it can be picked up off cold hard surfaces for 24 hours plus like supermarket shelves etc and petrol pumps.....

And metal table tops like they have in a lot of cafes

What use is a weather forecast when half the UK's cooped up indoors trying to work out their on-line shopping for a fortnight ahead?

Why are we getting half an idea then 2/3 days later the full policy. It's simple people, if the virus isn't passed on it dies on the host or the surface it landed on within an amount of time , it's not rocket science. If you have to go out, wash your hands or use antibacterial wipes/gel.

Blundering wandering Willie Johnson is not and never was leadership material and neither is his eugenicist mate that is running the Country, Cunning Cummings.,,So much bloody time wasted, planes landing from all over, no checks, no security,,VPN's supplied to my daughters work last week, still her works laptop not available to work from home. The government is giving advice and not adhering to it itself

I've been in self isolation for 4 days, my youngest daughter who works for the civil service was advise by work to self isolate due to cough, temp, tight chest and being extremely tired all the time. I have no symptoms at all and we are not sharing any space, detol and antibacterial is sprayed constantly, bathroom, taps door handles and work surfaces cleaned down every time we use them. I think it's seasonal flu but because they won't test her it means 4 more days for her and 10 more for me indoors...price worth paying though. For the first time today I saw her in the living room from the hall, I thought I was being burgled  We made sure there was at least 9 feet between us

Take care everyone and I am listening to the World Health Organisation for the best advice and not the idiots in charge.

*all of the above is aimed at the government and not you lovely lot, forum members have more sense*

It's like a bloody zombie apocalypse in our supermarkets. Getting progressively emptier. Bloody govt and supermarkets don't have a handle on this - clearly. As soon as the toilet roll started to get snapped up, they should have introduced rationing!!!

It will be petrol next, you watch.
