Just bin it. Serves no-one in Cumbria or South Shields. Or Scotland.
That needs a public inquiry. Seen the money these dudes have been on.

With the internet and on line everything ... where's the future need for people to travel anywhere regularly
The cost and destruction is shameful

I hope you travel Simon Templar.
Maybe you should write.
Agreed, the costs are increasing year on year, this could, by 2030 end up being a multi billion project, and all for what - to allow people from the north to get to London quicker. I do not believe for one second the carp about it allowing for business and wealth to spread out, up north away from London. Why would they want that!!!
A huge waste of taxpayer's money simply to cut a few minutes off the travelling time of midlands bosses to get to London at a time when, as Saint mentions, the internet is making this sort of travel less and less justifiable for businesses and the environment.

With the internet and on line everything... I feel strongly it is more important than ever that people travel.
More and more people are hiding in their social media bubble, only following people who conform to and validate their opinions. As a result, we are becoming more polarized, less empathetic and less enquiring.
No offense to you intended here @Saint

Awww bless him Is he still in hospital ?
No he is home, he is still under the care of a surgeon so they may still have to operate, but they have ruled out a tumor and hernia. He has more tests next week and is seeing the surgeon Friday. The last CT was still unclear due to swelling. It could be an autoimmune problem, other possibilities that would require surgery. Itβs frustrating!

Awww ...well at least they have ruled out tumours .......could it be something like crohns (which my daughter has), or maybe ulcerative colitis ? Whatever , I hope they can sort him out quickly

I can see your point @Former Member
I mean businesses who make up a lot of commuter miles.
They don't need to travel. Video conferencing is so easy.

I think you're right Roxanne and that's a valid point overall, but what HS2 looks like is a white elephant that's geared toward 'heads of' in the Midlands shaving minutes off their journey to head offices in London and making Birmingham as a suburb of London. I also think Brexit has polarised opinion greatly and independently of social media.
Given that our traditional print press is horrendously biased to the right-wing, I think social media is more of a freedom rather than a straight jacket. Back on topic, I'm sure there are far better ways to improve our transport infrastructure than HS2.
The problem with HS2 (apart from the spiraling costs) is that the whole of the UK is paying for it, but it is only a small (relatively speaking) part of the country that will be using it.
