I know that you've all been missing brisket, and wondering where he's been the last month.  I'm so sorry to report that he's recently passed away. We don't have any details, but we knew that you would want to know this.

I know that you all join us in wishing peace and healing to his family and RL friends, and we wish you the same. brisket was a shining light in this community, and a big contributor (remember the T-shirt design competition that he won?)  He will definitely be missed.

We got to thinking--we'd like to memorialize brisket in some way on Gaga. I'd love to hear what suggestions you might have for that.

And this: is for all of you. Cherish the friendships that you have, always.

Edited to correct the name. Thanks, Slinki!

Yes, I really think he was, Sezit.

This is really very sad news and I'm quite taken aback right now.
We've lost one of the good guys.

Im just wondering when he last posted.

I think it was 22nd May - don't know what it was though.

His Archers thread with Baz and Petercat mainly was what i last really remember. Just to have something in his name and memory i suppose for starters. Like El loro suggested.

I still remember how he comforted us lot over the Chilean miner days

You are right, it was on the Wimbledon thread, and he posted this as 12.55:

"Pleased to say I am watching it right now on Freeview red button.

Until 3.15  - then they are going to spend an hour analysing the F1 Grand Prix.

But this is a promising sign for tennis fans. It means we will be seeing some of the French Open.

I love the idea of naming the Films/Movies forum after him!  Feel free to give other suggestions: we don't need to limit ourselves to one idea.

a " quiz night" every now and then would be good? He was great at putting together quizzes, we could have a bash at something similar?

We need something to remember him as well in this Big Brother forum i would say as well as the Films forum.

Can't think straight at the moment though.

Nor me but whatever it is .....it should be a bit special - I'll be thinking about it.

I am so sad to read this news.  I respected brisket, he was a kind and caring soul and a gentleman of the first order. He cared a lot about this community, and we all know he did more than his share in contributing to keeping us talking. We'll all be poorer for his passing.

Following on the theme of the suggestions above - would it be possible to change the red stars in the GaGaJoyJoy logo to brisket's red rose?

RIP brisket - We'll miss you!

I have been thinking about a lasting memorial to brisket. If it is at all possible Lori, could you somehow put all of briskets threads and quizzes into a folder and then sticky it up at the top. That way when we miss him, and are feeling nostalgic, we could go back and read his wonderful threads. As you know, brisket was in to nostalgia in a very big way, and I think  it would be a lovely way to remember him. Hope it will be possible.

I am so shocked.........

I assumed that brisket was just taking a break from this place for a while

It was always easy to post with him - I'll always remember our mutual appreciation for Rodrigo back in 2009 when it was me and brisket against the forum

His threads were always interesting and unique.

I'm sure brisket would not want us all to be sad - we should remember the good times we had with him.

Condolences to his family and friends

What a lot of lovely ideas you folks are having.

We'll take them all into consideration. Whatever we do won't happen immediately (I want to give everyone a chance to weigh in), but there WILL be an appropriate way to remember brisket.

I heard he'd been ill for sometime, and as was his way, just didn't tell us. He would not have wanted too much attention for that.

Oh lordy....that's so typical of brisket.  He really was a star, wasn't he?

I'd like to second Sezit's idea of a folder containing some of his work too.

Lovely idea, Sezit xxx

So do I.       Got to have his rose through it, or as an emblem as has been suggested.

I bet there are quite a few of his posts we will find from time to time, dotted here and there when we look through, or bump a thread.

A Monthly Quiz Night.....maybe on the 22nd of each month....

Called "briskets Quiz night" or something, with his Sparkling Rose as avator.....

We could all through out the month post 1 question (About Films, Music, BB, TV, Radio.etc)....

Just a thought, as I do think brisket liked to bring us all together through his quiz threads.......

I haven't been here for quite some time now. The last time I popped in was to reply to the lovely brisket who was asking after me. I cannot begin to express how sad I am to have heard this news on FB. He was a genuinely lovely man, probably one of the nicest people I never met. My sincere condolences to his family and anyone who was priveleged enough to know him in RL.

Rest in Peace brisket. You will twinkle forever in my mind.

Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used.

Put no difference in your tone, where no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.

Let my name be ever the household word that it always was,let it be spoken without effort, without the trace of shadow on it.

Most definitely.

I think (I know it's controversial) but there should be something relating to the Troll Tank - then if ever we find ourselves down there and catch a glimpse of those sparkly roses we would feel suitably chastened. He was the best peace maker ever.

How sad.  When the posts wondering where he was appeared, I feared the worst, cos brisket doesn't stay away from the forum. And now this.

R.I.P. brisket. You were a true gentleman and are going to be sorely missed. Someone mentioned brisket's generosity of spirit, isn't that just so true of our brisket?

Condolences to his family and friends.

Hello Everyone. I've only just joined. I am the friend of brisket who told you about his death. I've just been reading this thread - not all of it, because I've been interrupted and have to stop imminently. I just want to say I'm overwhelmed and touched by what you all have to say. Having known him in real life for over 20 years I can confirm that you are all completely correct in describing him as a gentleman. He was a really lovely person.

I will be reading everything written here, and will print them out so I can read and re-read. Your thoughts are wonderfully kind, and it does help when coping with the loss of a wonderful friend.

He often talked about this community and was very proud of his design on the t-shirt.

He had been suffering from a heart condition and cancer for a number of years. We don't know exactly what happened at the end. He was last seen returning from a shopping trip last Tuesday. I understand that neighbours became concerned at not seeing or hearing from him and called the emergency services on Thursday morning. He was found dead in his bed, so we have to hope that the end was peaceful.

I will probably know more soon, and will let you know.

Thank you all so much for having been such great friends for him. I'll post again here soon when I have some more time.

Kathy

Kathy. Thankyou so much for letting us know about brisket. He was a very much loved, and well thought of member of this community. We will all miss him greatly, and it is so nice to know that he had friends like you in real life.We are all grieving as if we knew him in real life and that is the thing, he made us all feel like we were his good friends. Like Queenie said last night, one of the nicest people we never met. R.I.P. brisket,One of lifes gentle gentlmen. Thanks again Kathy.

Sezit

Just as BAZ said on the "Historical Chats" thread that she would like to talk to James Stewart to see if he was the true gentlemen as he was always portayed, I picked up an article in the Daily Mail about David Niven hoping to learn the same.

At the end of the article it said the final word on David Niven should be left to the porters at Heathrow Airport who sent a wreath to his funeral. It read,

"To the finest gentleman who ever walked these halls"

 . . . that's how i shall remember Brisket

Saint

You're right Marguerita.  I never saw him even so much as hint that he was ill.  That only goes to show what a discreet and considerate person he was. He obviously didn't want to make people here feel in any way uncomfortable or sad around him.

Kathy - I'm sorry for your loss x

R.I.P brisket

Too right - I loved his quizzes!

Demantoid

I read this terrible news last night and haven't felt able to type the appropriate words, until now although everyone else has said it all, really - gentle, caring, funny, lovely. Even his rants just made you smile! I avoided his quizzes, mostly, but only because I was so crap at them. Even so, he would congratulate me for coming in at the end and claiming that I would have got 100%, if only I'd seen the quiz in time.

I think I knew something was wrong, when he suddenly disappeared - brisket would never do that to us. He noticed when someone hadn't been on for a while and would always ask if anyone knew where they were.

I'd also like to thank Kathy for letting us know and send her and all his friends and family my deepest condolences. I feel honoured to have known him in my cyber life, so you must all feel doubly honoured to have had him in your real lives.
