I noticed today the HMRC hae updated their Meursing code checker. Only relates to importers and exporters of products which have a sugar or milk content so of no interest to anyone other than those people.

It reminded me of the times when cross border smuggling took place over the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland (from about 1923 but had largely ceased by the 1970s. Amongst other things women from Belfast would go to towns near the border to get things such as sugar on what were called sugar trains. Article about this:

Good morning everyone

The good weather has missed me, we have rain

Moonie, “Let’s be careful out there” reminded me of one of my favourite programmes from the 80’s, called Hill Street Blues.
El, we’ve just had the heating on for half an hour as it was a bit chilly.

Have a good day and stay safe, everyone

Good morning from a park bench in a quiet countryside corner it rained overnight but is pleasantly here now, still overcast but not cold. I’ve brought a little picnic out with me

Lovely and sunny here now. A slight breeze but by no means cold
All okay with me fankoo. I hope you and Miss Bramble are okay too

Enjoy your picnic but stay safe

Just to clarify; it wasn’t an actual picnic, and I wasn’t in an actual park.. I had a cereal bar in my pocket and I briefly sat on a bench to enjoy the view while I ate it, my apologies if I’ve made it sound far more exciting than it really was x

If you enjoyed yourself then that’s all that matter. We shall call it a mini-nic

Thanks for clearing that up As you know, having outdoor picnics, other than in your back garden, is a no-no at this time.

I thought it might be something like that

Good morning everyone it's a nice morning. I'm glad you enjoyed your mini picnic Summer and the fresh air. It's good to take a moment now and then especially in these stressful times.

Me and my hubby loved Hill Street Blues, somehow they all felt like family and there was a lot of humour too. They truly don't make shows like that any more.

Enjoy your day everyone

Recording the 1951 film version of Tom Brown's Schooldays this afternoon (Talking Pictures channel). Seen it before a couple of times over the years but not for some time. Of the tiny English public schools films, it's the best of them (not including If... as in that genre as it's an allegorical film rather than a public school film). Tom Brown's Schooldays has a good cast. Tom Brown was played by John Howard Davies (Oliver Twist in the 1948 film of that name). The headmaster, Dr Thomas Arnold, was played by Robert Newton (Bill Sykes in that Oliver Twist film).

Robert Newton was in Odd Man Out shown on Talking Pictures in the last couple of days. Seen that several times. One of the darkest British film noir films made, and one of James Mason's best films. The scenes with James Mason and Robert Newton are quite something.
