I've just had some crumpets which I've not had in ages, have they changed the ingredients as the texture did not taste like what I remember them being like?. Never mind I still enjoyed them anyway, but I was boring and just had them with butter, what else is good apart from that and Philadelphia and chives?

Depends on the age of the crumpet.
Over 50 I usually go with cream and rasps.

Nahhhh - that's a pancake. Possibly a scotch pancake.
Crumpets are thicker, smaller and more doughy. A bready texture not a battery one.
Melted cheese. Or jam. Marmite...mmmmm...
Anyone tried the marmite flavour roasted cashews?
I hate Marmite so that's a non starter, but I hear soft cheese and ham is good!.

Honest, that's what the bakers sell as crumpets here! A Scotch pancake is the wee one in front.. though I have seen those other, pale, doughy-looking crumpets in Tescos .

I think they are possibly the most delicious things I've ever tasted. Apart from Marmite flavoured chocolate.
Marmite on a toasted buttered slice of a Bloomer is great......

Crumpet No............!
Savoury: melted cheese
Sweet: peanut butter and jam....or honey, or better still, golden syrup melting and running through your fingers
Again!
A well toasted crumpet and some nicely mashed spuds are the only things that only need butter (not marge) just butter (my choice being lurpak).
And I agree about crumpets not tasting as good as they used to. They used to have more substance before, last one I had was too soggy.
May I just take this opportunity to agree with you about food for the first time ever, (other than pavlova!)

Have you progressed to the squirty kind.....or are you still tinned with the sticky top?
and squirty Marmite.....what a disaster..trying to get the last of the beloved brown stuff out was really hard, squirt as I might, there was always the last squirt left!!!!
LOL.....Sorry but its true......in all squirty containers, there is always the last squirt left......
Pesto and cheese for me.
I have a feeling I didn't leave my crumpets in the toaster long enough last night, that's why the texture felt different, never mind I'll try again tonight, butter again though.
