So: I'm watching news footage of Kier Starmer getting heckled at the Labour Party Conference, and I suddenly find myself shouting at the screen "Hey: isn't that Carole from BB8?". Sir Keir Starmer heckled at Labour Party conference - BBC News I knew she'd been active in the SWP for a long time, but TBH I wasn't totally sure it was her. However, I had a quick look over on Digital Spy and someone there is a lot more certain than me that it is indeed her...
I considered putting this in the TV Thread, but felt it deserved one of its own. For those who don't already know: the US Open Tennis Final between Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez is to be shown live on Channel 4 tonight (Saturday). BBC Radio 5 Live is also covering it. Emma Raducanu: Channel 4 to show US Open final against Leylah Fernandez live - BBC Sport The match starts at 9pm BST, with programming on C4 starting at 8pm. This will directly follow the F1 Qualifying Highlights on the...
ITV have announced that they will not broadcast the final episode of "Viewpoint" tonight (Friday) following the recent allegations of sexual harassment and bullying against the show's lead Noel Clarke. ITV drops final episode of Viewpoint from main channel following sexual harassment claims In a statement, ITV said: "In light of the very serious nature of the allegations against Noel Clarke raised by 20 women in the Guardian’s report, ITV has decided it is no longer appropriate to broadcast...
Breaking News: Nikki Grahame died in the early hours of Friday, 9th April. She was 38. She had recently returned to a specialist clinic for treatment for her anorexia. https://metro.co.uk/2021/04/10...xia-battle-14390327/ Below is a link to the GoFundMe page where the initial announcement was made: https://www.gofundme.com/f/2az...;utm_source=customer
I've already posted about this elsewhere, but thought a more general reminder might be a good idea too. For those who don't already know, Boris Johnson is broadcasting to the nation at 7pm tonight (Sunday). This will be shown live on BBC1, ITV, C4 and C5 (and presumably the news channels too). As the results of the inevitable TV rescheduling that follows this sort of thing often aren't noticed until the last minute, I thought I'd give a heads-up: The biggest change is on BBC1: the PM's...
Is anyone-else going to watch this, or even place a bet? Runners, riders & betting on race to benefit NHS There's a half-hour programme on ITV at 5pm, with the "race" starting at 5.15pm. I appreciate that some FMs aren't keen on the Grand National, but for once there are no real-life horses and jockeys to get hurt. Betting stakes are limited to £10 per horse (although they allow £10 each way bets, which would have a total outlay of £20). All profits from betting will go to NHS Charities...
I don't know how many other FMs are familiar with the former South African rugby player Chester Williams, but his sudden death from a heart attack at the tragically young age of 49 came as a nasty shock, and I felt compelled to write something. Chester Williams: South Africa World Cup winner dies aged 49 Chester was a member of South Africa's World Cup winning team of 1995. The only black player in the squad, he originally pulled out due to injury, but returned after his teammate Pieter...
It has been confirmed today that the actor Rutger Hauer passed away on Friday at the age of 75, following a short illness. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-49098435 He was known for many film and TV roles, but perhaps most famously for that of the replicant Roy Batty in Blade Runner .
Hugh McIlvanney, arguably not just Britain's greatest ever sports writer, but one of its greatest ever journalists full stop , has died at the age of 84. In a career lasting nearly 60 years, highlights included an interview with Muhammad Ali immediately after the "Rumble in the Jungle", and compiling the definitive account of Ally Macleod's disastrous World Cup campaign in 1978. Awards included being named British sports writer of the year 7 times, being awarded an OBE in 1996, being...
Is anyone-else following this on BBC2? https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/xfhZH9qWPt1G8F2mbN2fVc/meet-the-icons I was very excited about this series when I first saw it advertised, however because of personal commitments tonight's show was the first I've been able to watch "live", and I have to say that I thought Chris Packham did a fantastic job of putting forward the cases for the four "scientist" icons. Going into the programme I'd have said that Einstein was a no-brainer for "top...
BBUK has tweeted in the last 15 minutes that Lewis has been removed for “unacceptable language that contravenes the rules”! Am on my phone ATM, so can’t post a link...
I was leafing through my copy of the Radio Times for next week and, coupled with a recent tweet from Marcus Bentley re this year's Final, I thought it was worth condensing into a thread. Feel free to add any new information or comments as they appear... Firstly, Marcus has confirmed that the Final show will be on Monday the 5th of November: Marcus Bentley @ marcusBBbentley 13 hours ago BREAKING NEWS: Big Brother will conclude on Monday, 5th November at 10-11.15pm in an episode titled...
For those who haven't already seen it, the latest poll on the official site is to decide whether Friday's eviction vote - and all remaining public votes for the rest of the series - will be conducted as Vote to Evict or Vote to Save. The poll will remain open until noon today (Wednesday), and can be found here: http://bigbrother.channel5.com/polling I know several FMs keep missing the polls, and although it was mentioned at the end of Tuesday's show, I'd have missed it myself if Kaytee...
*** Spoiler Warning (For Saint ) *** [Edit] Rather than create a new thread each week, I've re-titled this one to make it general. [/Edit] Anamelia: 1/6 Favourite to go; Kay: 5/1; Sian: 20/1 [Odds from BetFred] Not really a surprise, and seems consistent with the online polls I've seen...
Already posted about next week's schedule, but another thing I gleaned from the new Radio Times is that the BB timeslots are unchanged for next week, so it would appear that the 10pm start (and later on some nights! ) is here for the foreseeable future. I know this is a major pain - and potential show-stopper - for some FMs. All I can offer is sympathy and the mild consolation that you're not alone, with a lot of fans complaining about the late start this year. Big Brother fans are NOT happy...
No - not a prediction/discussion thread (although feel free to hijack it if you wish! ) I've just leafed through next week's Radio Times, and felt a bit of a heads-up was in order: Sunday's finale of "Bodyguard" is an extended episode running from 9-10.15pm. This means it will cross the beginning of BB - which is a particular bind this weekend, as the absence of a Saturday show this season means Sunday's BB will be the first show after the first eviction. Also, "Vanity Fair" on ITV is...
[Edit] Rather than create a new thread every week, I've retitled this one to make it a general "Odds to Win" thread which can be updated as required. (And if any other FMs notice sudden changes, feel free to provide updates yourself.) [/Edit] Below is a snapshot of the initial betting odds for the 14 HMs on entering the house. For practical reasons it's largely taken from Betfred, and because it's based on the launch show it still includes Ellis - I've left her in as I think it's interesting...
I was going to post this on the TV thread, but I know a number of FMs are anime fans, so I thought it deserved a wider audience... Film4 are celebrating the work of the Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli (often referred-to as "The Japanese Disney") with a retrospective series throughout the summer entitled "Studio Ghibli: the Complete Adventure". I think they intend to screen every one of the studio's movies during the series, and they start with a biggie: the wonderful (and...
The Czech-born director Milos Forman has died at the age of 86. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-43767278 He is best-known for his two Oscar-winning movies; "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", and this one:
A bit of a personal one this, but I know there are other anime fans on the forum. Isao Takahata, The Japanese anime director, has died at the age of 82. He was also a co-founder of the legendary Studio Ghibli - often referred-to as the "Japanese Disney". Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata dies at 82 As a director, Takahata was best known for "Grave of the Fireflies", however this little beauty is the film he got an Oscar nomination for:
Robot Wars has been axed by the BBC again Robot Wars ✔ @UKRobotWars Sad to confirm the BBC’s decision to de-activate our House Robots. A huge thank you to Dara & Angela, our brilliant judges Noel, Lucy & Sethu, all of the amazing teams and most of all...you for joining us on this amazing robot smashing adventure. # BringBackRobotWars # RobotWars 3:44 PM - Mar 16, 2018 A BBC spokesman said, "We are very proud of Robot Wars and would like to thank Mentorn Media, the presenters Dara Ó...
We're only halfway through the week and It's already been a difficult one, with tomorrow predicted to be the coldest March day on record. I therefore think we all need some cheering up, so let's celebrate 30 years of Matt (otherwise known as Matt Pritchett), pocket cartoonist for the Daily Telegraph. As usual, his latest nails it...
Quite a few in memoriam threads at the moment, and I wouldn't expect everyone to know who Edwin Hawkins was. However around 50 years ago he wrote an arrangement of an 18th Century hymn, and in doing so helped create the contemporary gospel scene...
Those of you who watched CiN will already know this, but for the rest of us... Peter Kay's Car Share to make surprise return Kay said he wanted to "quit while you're ahead" after series two ended earlier this year. But he's announced a "special finale" to show what happened between John, his character, and Sian Gibson's Kayleigh. It will follow Car Show Unscripted, an improvised episode. Both will be screened on BBC One next year. TBH I've got mixed views about this. Like other FMs, I found...
Don't worry - no spoilers, just a heads-up. Normally I'd put this in the usual "TV Thread", but as I know there are a number of fans here I felt I had to make this more obvious. Some of you may be aware that some TV guides were unclear as to exactly when the final episode of "The Handmaid's Tale" would be broadcast tomorrow (Sunday), due to C4's coverage of the Women's Euro 2017. I've checked the All 4 website and can confirm that C4 are showing the England v France Quarter Final that KO's...
I'm on my Christmas holidays now, and as is usual I will be without internet access for some time. I'll probably lurk on the phone now and then, and might even post (very) occasionally, however I thought it best to wish all you lovely FMs a Merry Christmas now! ...And a Happy New Year when it comes...
Lib Dem Sarah Olney has won the Richmond Park by-election after Zac Goldsmith resigned his seat and stood again as an Independent. She's overturned his "Conservative" majority of 23,000! Goldsmith was trying to make it a protest vote against Heathrow expansion, but it looks like the LIb Dems have successfully managed to turn it into a protest vote against Brexit. The result is yet another political miscalculation in a year full of them! One interesting little fact: Olney is now the Lib Dem's...
Have you seen the C4 trailers for the new series of "Humans"? Persona Synthetics are having to perform a product recall! http://www.personasynthetics.com/productrecall/
Yes, you read that right: for those who didn't already know, tonight's episode of "The Last Leg" has been renamed "Your Mum" thanks to a viewers' poll last week in honour of Boaty McBoatface!
Anyone-else watch "Russell Howard's Good News" tonight? After an American mayor agreed to be tasered for charity, Russell has been inspired to start a campaign to get the mayor of London tasered for charity too! He's already got a campaign video: http://taserboris.org/
This thread is an experiment. I was trying to find a way to provide the answers to the “How well do you know British films?” quiz featured on EC’s thread: ( http://www.gagajoyjoy.com/topi...u-know-british-films ) Yogi suggested a “Spoiler” thread, but the problem with that is that the full text of the OP still shows up on the Home Page. What I’m going to try instead is to post the answers as a reply to this Topic, so hopefully the only people who will see them are those who already know what...
Just in case anyone's still interested. It's looking extremely close. All odds on Betfair (other bookies have the lead 4 spread out a little more): Chloe 11/4 favourite; Jack, Danny and Joel all on 7/2; NIck 5/1; Cristian 12/1
Sorry if this has been discussed already, but Victor Ebuwa was interviewed on BB Couch Potatoes this evening. https://www.spreaker.com/user/...mp;utm_medium=widget Some of the main points: - Vic was originally told that he’d be entering the house for 2 hours, and would only be accompanied by a few major ex-HMs. - He was specifically told not to talk to the HMs. Afterwards, the producers weren’t happy he’d done it, but seemed happy with the reactions he provoked. - As well as what was shown,...
A little bit of a heads up: At the moment, the Channel 5 website is still claiming that tonight's eviction show is 90 minutes long (as advertised in the Radio Times), however when I went to record it via my Freeview box it I discovered it was...
I posted this earlier on last night's highlights thread, but seeing as it appeared to be news to most FMs, I thought it deserved a wider audience... Kimberly Kisselovich (Kimbot) and Steven Goode (too many offensive nicknames to list here) got...
Not watching the show, but... Allegations that resulted in former Baywatch star Jeremy Jackson being thrown out of the Celebrity Big Brother house are being investigated by police. Jackson, 34, was removed from the house after fellow contestant...
