Top seed Maria Sharapova has been knocked out of Wimbledon in straight sets by Germany's Sabine Lisicki.
The Russian world number one had been bidding to become the first player since Serena Williams in 2002 to win the French Open-Wimbledon double in the same year.
Lisicki, the 15th seed, secured victory with her third match point, an ace on her second serve, to win 6-4 6-3 on a chilly Court One.
Serena Williams and Petra Kvitova were both made to work hard in their fourth-round matches on Monday before booking a Wimbledon quarter-final showdown.
Four-time champion Williams edged a 54-minute third set to win 6-1 2-6 7-5 against world number 65 Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan.
Defending champion Petra Kvitova came from a set down to beat Italy's Francesca Schiavone 4-6 7-5 6-1.
Roger Federer had to overcome a back injury and the rain to beat Xavier Malisse in the Wimbledon fourth round.
The six-time champion had eight minutes of treatment during the first set, which he won on a tie-break, before racing through the rain-delayed second.
Malisse hit back in the third, but Federer recovered to seal a 7-6 (7-1) 6-1 4-6 6-3 win.
"My back is OK, it started to feel better as the match went on," Federer told BBC Sport.
Murray's match against Cilic is currently on hold because of the rain. He won the first set 7-5, and has broken in the second set to lead 3-1.
Andy Murray eventually booked his place in the Wimbledon quarter-finals with victory over Marin Cilic in a match heavily disrupted by rain on Court One.
The match began at 15:45 BST on Monday but was suspended at 16:52 with Murray leading 7-5 3-1 and 40-0 .
Play resumed at 12:10 on Tuesday only to be stopped five minutes later with only two games being completed.
They re-started at 13:10 and Murray won 7-5 6-2 6-3 at 14:10. He next plays David Ferrer or Juan Martin del Potro.
David Ferrer set up a quarter-final clash with British number one Andy Murray with a convincing straight sets win over Juan Martin del Potro.
Ferrer completed the 6-3 6-2 6-3 victory over an out-of-sorts Del Potro in one hour and 58 minutes to reach the last eight for the first time.
The Spaniard will be joined by Germany's Florian Mayer, who beat Richard Gasquet 6-3 6-1 3-6 6-2.
Mayer, the 31st seed, will play defending champion Novak Djokovic.
Serena Williams beat defending champion Petra Kvitova in straight sets to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals.
While rain fell at SW19, the American sixth seed defeated the Czech 6-3 7-5 under the Centre Court roof.
Williams, a four-time Wimbledon champion, will play either Victoria Azarenka or Tamira Paszek for a place in the final.
Got home today to find the Murray/Ferrer math at 1 set all and 2 games all in the 3rd set.
It got to 4-4 in the 3rd set then Murray broke Ferrer to lead 5-4 in the 3rd set, So now he's serving for the 3rd set.

Serena Williams moved closer to winning a fifth Wimbledon singles title with a formidable straight sets victory over Victoria Azarenka on Centre Court.
The American produced a record 24 aces to overpower Azarenka 6-3 7-6 (8-6) in one hour and 36 minutes minutes to set up a meeting with Agnieszka Radwanska.
Third seed Radwanska convincingly beat Angelique Kerber of Germany 6-3 6-4 to reach her first Grand Slam final.
Radwanska said: "There is one match to go. I'm really going to try my best."
Radwanska only needed one hour and nine minutes to complete a 6-3 6-4 win on Centre Court.
Heather Watson may take some comfort from having lost to Agnieszka Radwanska in the third round with her opponent progressing through to the final.

He is the first Briton to get to the Wimbledon Men's final for 74 years.
The last Briton to do this was Bunny Austin in 1938.
