Dobby, did you get them from SmileySupply.com, the link that was in tatty's help thread? That site has now become just another forum and all the smileys that came from there are slowly fading away.

It's unfortunate that this site doesn't allow you to upload straight from your PC at least that way your own smileys are safe.

If you save them to photobucket and put them in that way, it's safer. That's what I did.
