Thousands of Brits with a new 20p in their pockets could find themselves £50 richer after a mix-up at the Royal Mint.

Around 200,000 of the coins have rocketed in value after the manufacturer admitted it had forgotten to put a date on them.

They are worth £50 if immediately returned, but are set to rise even further in value because of their rarity.The Royal Mint does not know exactly how many undated coins were produced and released into circulation, but estimates range between 50,000 and 200,000.

I'm gutted, I paid for my lunch in 20ps today (yes it's the end of the month so skint!) and I know there were some in there that could've been undated as they had the new symbol on them. I read the story whilst eating me lunch and nearly cried!

Apparently at first collectors were paying £50 but have now realised there were more than they thought so now they are not paying much for them at all. Perhaps they will be worth keeping for the future though

Someone is bidding almost £500 for one on that page Heatseek! I'm so glad Mr Veg doesn't come on here, he's the kind of numpty who would pay £1000 for one. I'm surprised he's not mentioned them to me, surely it must've been in the news? OMG, I'd better check the bidder's name who is paying the £500!

Someone is about to pay £19 for a dated 20p The buyer clearly states, yes there is a date on the front, yet people are still bidding on it.

Anyone else brave enough to sell a normal 20p?
