A lot of people did that, or hid under the stairs - especially if they had no Anderson shelter

Yes.....odd thing was, there was a brick built shelter at home, the niece would have been safe underground

Some had Morrison shelters which were used indoors - just a big cage really

I can understand why her parents wanted her away from there
