Yes! Smacking should be illegal.
A child shouldn't need it if they are taught properly and if when they do wrong then there are much better ways to let them know.

Personally I think the question should be: Should 'anyone' be allowed to be a parent?

Interesting point cos i think if you need to strike out to control then you've already lost control .. but at least it's a way to regain control but perhaps suggest it's not the best of parenting.

Some people definitely should not be allowed to be parents or perhaps are just not capable and should recognise that, ie., me!

Tbh I don’t think a tap on the hand does them much harm , but then I’m old fashioned

Bit of a raised voice is ok to me - maybe a threat LOL

It's odd cos when i would visit older family members out of an unmentioned respect, we were on our best behaviour and would never dare be rude. I think it's an attitude or an atmosphere around a person. I wouldn't dare step out of line for some teachers ... not that I would for any others but there was something there ... a respect thing. Some parent don't have that 'tool'.

I suspect you'd be more capable than you think...and tbf most parents don't really know how they are going to be until they become one.
For me it's the tone of voice and explaining the consequences of actions.
