I'm not a massive Beatles fan.  I think they're somewhat overated.  Elvis stood head and shoulders over his rock and roll peers. He is the king of Rock n Roll!

Elvis had the look, the moves, stage presence and the voice but overall the Beatles were musicians in all the senses and wipe the floor with Elvis.  Better band, better musicians, better artistic expression and better song writing.

I can't say I am a fan of either. I do however own two Beatles albums; Sgt Peppers and The White Album. Everything else is a bit too poppy and pedestrian for me.

As for Elvis, I do remember my parents having the odd vinyl album and I do recall the films, but he's not for me.

I have to say, for bands not of my era I would migrate to Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and The Doors.

My decade was the 1980's with a smidgen from 1976-1999. I'm all about Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, John Foxx, Ultravox, Talking Heads, The Smiths, Joy Division, Cabaret Voltaire, Human League, Heaven 17, ABC, Soft Cell, Sisters of Mercy, Tangerine Dream, Simple Minds... you get the idea.

EC, our tastes are quite similar although I don't consider myself to be bound by a decade.

I have a quite a few Beatles records and they're ok, but I can say that they're are dozens of bands and musicians that I prefer to listen to than the Beatles and that I rate as more interesting, and producing better music than the Beatles - the Human League for example!

I watched the Beatles' "Help!" a few months back and it's supposed to be the best 'band/music' film ever - according to critics, yet all the songs sound more or less the same.  All about love found or lost.  All a bit, well one-note... boy bandy.
