I don't get it erinp. Scotland has been under the cosh of the English. There are so many arguments for stepping off. Why don't you want independance?

What are the arguments for going alone? Economic disaster!!

How would we be independent if we keep the crown and keep the currency.

My hand would wither before I would vote SNP .

To be honest I have a bit of an aversion towards anything with suggestions of Nationalism in the title. There's no point us abhorring the NF, BNP, EDL, and other assorted loonies but then giving succour to the SNP. Step forward Kirsty Young and her brilliant DID hatchet job on Alexandro Salmond. Some might say it was 45 minutes they would never get back but at least she showed him for the uncharismatic, yet opportunist, boring fart that he is.
I believe that together we are stronger.

But that argument relies on the assumption that Scotland would vote SNP forever more and that a vote for independence is a vote for the SNP.

Scottish independence and Scottish Nationalism are NOT the same thing.

Like any other leader of any other political party, Alex Salmond will not necessarily be there forever, nor is it written in stone that the SNP (whoever their leader) will eternally be the party in power,

Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing

I am  fully aware that the SNP and other parties may in the future hold the power in Edinburgh.

It's the Nats that are pushing for independence, it's their agenda.

They needs to explain what independence would mean for Scotland. They need to address fiscal policy, crown, defence ,credit rating(UK are triple A, Japan AA what the hell would Scotland be)that 's just a few of my concerns.

For me nationalism and socialism combined is a deadly cocktail.

I don't blame Scotland for wanting to go it alone but I think the SNP are trying to pull the wool over Scottish voters' eyes.

A few years ago, Salmond was rubbishing the pound and saying Scotland would join the Euro.  Then the Euro became out of favour and now it's the pound.

It pains me to say it, but Gideon's assessment of the situation is right.  The SNP expect the rest of the UK to underwrite the Scottish economy.  The threat to renege on Scotland's share of the UK's debt, just proves what a dangerous and ignorant game the SNP are prepared to play.

Gideon is right in saying that Scotland can't bail out the rest of the UK but the UK can bail out Scotland so the relationship is one sided.

Scotland wants to leave the UK, so why should it leave on its own favourable terms?  Especially when its own terms reduce Scotland's risks while increasing the risk to the rest of the UK.
