Velvet is a big loss to the forum, and I really hope he returns. He's on DS isn't he? Though I can't remember the name he uses Think it begins with a v or w and sounds eastern european.
I shall wear a silk negligee with matching gown, a pair of chi-chi fluffy mules, whilst reclining on a chaise longue awaiting the return of the velvety one. If he's not sporting a red handkerchief and a natty pair of braces then I'm calling the fanfare off

Off the top of my head I would be surprised if Gravity, Captain Phillips and 12 Years a Slave did not pick up a clutch of Oscars.

Best Actor: Matthew McConaughey;
Best Actress: Cate Blanchett
After that it becomes trickier, but here goes:
Best Supporting Actor: Jared Letto (with Barkhad Abdi as an outside bet);
Best Supporting Actress: Possibly the most open of the lot - I'd personally like it to be Sally Hawkins, but I think it will be Jennifer Lawrence, with Lupita Nyong'o as an outside bet;
Best Foreign Picture: The Great Beauty, although changes in the voting system might benefit the Belgian film, The Broken Circle Breakdown;
Best Animated Picture: Frozen
Beyond that, I'd expect Gravity to win a slew of technical awards, and I haven't a clue how the two screenplay awards wil go...

Drinks tonight are
Drinkers
4 mint leaves
3/4 ounce good-quality silver tequila
1/2 ounce elderflower liqueur
1/2 ounce simple syrup
1/2 ounce lime juice
3 ounces MoÃŦt & Chandon
1 slice starfruit
In a cocktail shaker combine simple syrup, lime juice, and mint leaves. Use a muddler or a wooden spoon to muddle the mint leaves. Add tequila and elderflower liqueur and fill shaker with ice. Shake vigorously for 20 seconds. Strain into a glass and top with Moet. Garnish with starfruit
Non drinkers
Serve sparkling apple, pomegranate, or blueberry juice â for a bubbly toast at any party!
Mix cranberry juice with lime soda and add a twist of lime for an elegant beverage
Nibbles
*Variation: Instead of caviar, garnish each egg with a small piece of smoked salmon and sprinkle with chives.
