Who makes your list of the most irritating celebs/people in the public eye.

The criteria is that they must be someone who is generally accepted as a dislikable person, when their name is mentioned the public reaction is mostly a negative one. A person with few admirers.

A bit of a pantomime villain - without the silver lining

That all depends on who you speak to. You see I would offer up Dec and Ant as I fail to find anyone who likes them, but they win the TV award thing each year, BUT, that may be by only 100,000 votes compared to 65 Million UK residents, that's a very small minority. So I would say, IMO they are disliked to the point of hated round my parts along with Johnson, who despite his large general election win, has only 'borrowed' votes to serve a single purpose, we shall see how popular he is in a couple of years time.

My list would be:

Rees-Mogg

Pierce "I take the mickey out of the Chinese language live on TV" Morgan

Johnson

Javid

Dec and Ant

Jamie Oliver

Naga Munchetti

Michael McIntyre (the most unfunny person hosting a prime time show on the BBC).

I agree ... It depends who you speak to AND who you dislike my have been voted a National Treasure (like Titchmarsh for me)

They may be successful but are they irritating - do the majority roll their eyes?

ie Alan Sugar fronts a very successful prog but he's not highly 'liked'

Same with Richard Madeley - a career success but never 'loved'

Where as Ant & Dec are mostly liked i would say - I don't see them listed anywhere as an annoyance. Do they have annoying traits?

I see how this can be a tough list to agree on, however

 why?

This is a political one for me so most won't agree.  She used her public platform to smear Corbyn and Labour members as antisemites and a media pile on to discredit Labour.  Despite hard evidence concluding Tory voters and members were more antisemitic than Labour.

She insulted the suffering of black people under apartheid and the fight against apartheid by mocking Corbyn's opposition to South African apartheid as hatred of Jews despite his numerous statements to the contrary.  She trolled the Labour Party and its members while acting like a victim of trolling.   Of course, the generally racist majority Tory media spun her as a brave crusader against antisemitism.  She's vile!

Like I say, it's a purely political one for me.  She weaponised antisemitism against Corbyn and Labour.  Our present PM wrote a book that described Jews as controlling the media and rigging elections, but hey, nothing to see here!

What do people think of Michael McIntyre??

When he started he was more 'alternative' but as he's become this huge star celebrity for the BBC his comedy has become safe, smug and grating.  That is what you'd expect for someone occupying that Saturday night family light entertainment slot.  He comes over as really full of himself.  I don't hate him and can think of a lot of worse, it's just I wouldn't choose to watch his shtick.  Ant and Dec annoy me more.

yep, in his ignorance, he sneered at a film with a Sikh as a  British WWI combatant as 'woke politically correct' when thousands of Sikhs fought for and laid down their lives for the British cause in WWI.  He owes the Sikh community a contrite apology and so does the legions of ignorant arseholes who nod their heads in agreement with his racist ignorance.

Jonathan King was widely considered to be deeply irritating (and indeed he rather played on his reputation as a bit of a "Marmite" figure) long before his criminal activities became public knowledge, and I assume that's where the reference comes from.

That said, I fully understand and agree with your point: no matter how 'irritating' I might consider "Johnny Reggae" (and it's often cited as a classic example of "cultural appropriation"), it simply isn't comparable to a conviction for child sexual abuse...

I agree it's a bit harsh to put someone like Anthea Turner in with a convicted underage sex abuser.  I know many find her very irritating and I can see that but I actually quite like Anthea Turner - I think she can laugh at herself.  Regardless of how much she might annoy you, she's not a convicted paedophile, is she?

I think cultural appropriation is a tricky one.  "Jonny Reggae" is just a cash-in novelty record at a time when reggae was very popular - and just that.  The 2 Tone era bands were accused of cultural appropriation - Madness - all white but almost being a Prince Buster tribute act in their early days, yet the overall message of that genre was multicultural togetherness.  Were the early black Ragtime and Jazz musicians 'appropriating' white European musical forms and white European instruments to produce their music?  Yes, they were, but so what!

Still alive, I don't think a child abuser can be described as 'irritating', it's not like you might think, "Oh that posh spice is well up herself with her stupid pouts and ridiculous poses she thinks she can copyright, and that Jonathan King, with his pedophilia, really irritates me as well!"

That's rather the point though...

I feel I'm dragging this thread seriously off-topic, so I don't want to go into this in great depth, but the criticism of "Johnny Reggae" centres around just that: it was a cheap cash-in by a white bloke who had no real knowledge, understanding or interest in the musical culture he was borrowing from.

You mention Madness as an example: the band I usually hear as a comparison is The Specials (or, more specifically, just Jerry Dammers), but the point remains the same. Yes; the 2 Tone bands attracted criticism at the time, but they genuinely respected and cared for the music, as well as the culture it represented. As you say, Madness started out - pretty much by their own admission - as virtually a Prince Buster tribute act, but that was "tribute" in the proper, respectful, sense.

Compared with Jonathan King, we're talking chalk and cheese...

I can't disagree with any of this Eugene's Lair, absolutely spot on and very well said!

Johnny Reggae,  a naff, tacky cheap cash-in absolutely!  Still, if that was his only crime, he would be irritating, but being a convicted peadophile is in a different league!

Royal Family ... will have to be represented by the Duke of Edinburgh who seems to revel in his rudeness and shockingly poor PC

Surely Prince Andrew who is a boorish entitled moron? Whether you like him or not, Prince Philip served the monarchy for decades..Prince Andrew seems to have been milking his privilege in any way he can all his so called service. And I’m not even including his “useful” connections to convicted felons...
