Lord Rix (Brian Rix) has died aged 92.
Best known for his Whitehall farces on stage, television and film.
He was married to Elspet Grey. When their first child was born and diagnosed with Down's Syndrome. He became involved with campaigning for those with learning diabilities, then with Mencap and eventually became their chairman, then president until his death.

I only knew him from the farces, to my shame. Had no idea he'd done so much good for others. Rest In Peace, Lord Rix.

A short clip from a 1960 film called "And the Same to You", a comedy about a man (Brian Rix) called Dickie Dreadnought who because of his name went into boxing. Although the clip is a bit meaningless in itself, just watch it to see some people you'll recognise and keep watching to see who appears as the scoutmaster.

Didn't particularly like his * farces* , but he seemed a genuinely nice person . RIP
