The number on the left is the amount you win, if you bet the number on the right.

If it is just one number, assume that the missing number is 1 and should be on the right.

The simplest way to remember it, the first number is what you win if the second number is how much you bet.

So, 1/33... if you bet £33, you win £1.
2/9... if you bet £9, you win £2.
6/4... if you bet £4, you win £6.

According to the bookies: John James and Steve are definitely going, then Sam, then either Dave or Corin, possibly Mario, v v unlikely Anrew or JJ2 going anywhere tonight

So basically you are saying the less I have to bet to win a quid they are least likely to go.

John james is more likely to go tonight cos I have to bet 33 quid to win back a quid.

Whereas I would only have to bet a pound on Steve to win back that pound.

(I always thought of it like a fraction... the closer it is to making 1 (or over) is more likely it is to happen... but this is much clearer)

If the number on the left is bigger than the one on the right, you get a better win, but it is less likely to happen.

If the number on the right is bigger, it's very likely to happen, but you win eff all, for your effort.
