I took a video up my local park today with the intention of posting it on the forum.

I got as far as getting it onto the forum via a post but it wouldn’t play bar the first frame.

I used my new iPhone 12 Pro to take the video. It’s running at HD 30...30fps.

It runs on my iPhone and iPad. Both are running Apple’s iOS 14.2.

It also runs on my laptop running the Linux OS.

Any suggestions?

@Moonie a couple of questions:

1. How big is the file?

2. Did you get any kind of an error message?

Sometimes if I load a video, it doesn't play for a minute or two, because it's still loading on the site. Can you try loading that video here, and just post it? Let's see what happens when you try that.

Lori

Can you try reloading the browser page?

If that doesn't work, trying closing the browser altogether, and reopening before you try to play it. I suspect this is something specific to your computer.

I have tried both of your suggestions and it still won’t play. I am on my iPad. It does play on my laptop as I said in my opening post

Moonie

OK, I am/was confused. I thought it wasn't working for you at all. Your opening post says:

"It runs on my iPhone and iPad. Both are running Apple’s iOS 14.2.

It also runs on my laptop running the Linux OS."

I'll go get my iPad and see if it works on mine.

Lori

which device did you upload it from, @Moonie? I'm going to try to recreate the issue.

On my iPhone and my iPad, I can see that it says "0:00", whereas it says "0:29" on the laptop, so it's clearly only loading the first frame.

Lori

OK, I see I did something a little bit different, and it's not on iCloud. Let me try again.

I will say that I did an Airdrop from my phone to my ipad, and that's what worked--did you try that?

I haven’t tried that to be honest Lori.

Thanks for your persistence

Moonie

OK, the file I've uploaded is 36.67, and this time I did it from iCloud. It still works.

Have you successfully uploaded videos this exact way in the past? And if so, how recent?

Lori

Today is the first time I have taken a video with my new iPhone and tried to put it on the forum although I could be mistake about not having done it on the forum before. I have loaded videos from my iPad to FB and Messenger before and they worked okay.

Moonie

OK, I went to check our testing site (where we can choose the device, browser, version, etc), and I see they don't even HAVE the 12 Pro, yet, so I can't test it there. Looks like it's only been out since October 23rd.

Until the tech industry catches up with Apple, you might try the air drop thing I mentioned above. Also, we've talked about a lot of things, here, but have you tried uploading to the laptop, and THEN to the forum?

Also, maybe experiment with the camera setting to see if that makes any difference? Try the 720p at 30 fps, for instance.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but you are apparently too cutting-edge for us!

That was my first try

There are only two settings on the iPhone 12 Pro, 30 fps and 60 fps

Lori, thanks for all your effort, much appreciated

Moonie

I have just loaded one of my videos from last year from my iPad to the forum and it worked

I have deleted it because it had my dulcet tones on it

So I am going to try my new iPhone camera again in a while

Moonie

Okay, so I recorded a new video with my new iPhone. Uploaded it to iCloud, then downloaded it from there to the forum and low and behold it didn’t play. So it’s obviously something to do with my new iPhone that’s not compatible with the forum as it works on all my other devices

Moonie

Moonie, if that doesn't work, here's a link to a step by step guide on installing Youtube on iPhone 12 Pro and then uploading a video on to Youtube:
https://deviceguides.vodafone....d-media/use-youtube/
My Youtube clip above is for iPhone 12 rather than your Pro version.

Yeah, I was pretty sure it was your new phone and our software that is causing the problem. I will raise the issue on my end and see if anyone can shed some light on it.

So, the bottom line is that when you upload from your phone, it can be viewed via a standard browser, but not on an iPad or an iPhone, correct? Or is it only viewable because you uploaded it via your laptop?

Lori

Lori , I'm using a Windows computer.
Firefox v 82 (so up to date) shows opening frame image but the clip itself is just black. The audio is working,
Likewise for old IE 11
Does work on Microsoft Edge.

If I'm in Microsoft Edge and save Moonie's clip on to my computer, it saves it as just an audio file 11.8 mb so a lot smaller than Moonie's 30.84 mb original with graphics. So in Firefox it's effectively the 11.8 mb audio version which plays.

Thanks Lori

That’s correct
