*braces herself*

We've had a few complaints about service on Gaga, and I'm here to get some specifics, and to see how widespread the issue is.  PLEASE help me by keeping yourself to a single post and telling me what's happening with slowness, error messages, etc.  Please be as detailed as possible:  tell me what you were doing or trying to do, where you were posting, and what OS/browser you were on.  Did you get an error message?  No error message but it was just super-slow?  Remember that I'm not looking over your shoulder, so you have to give me as much detail as possible so we can find the common issues.

Thanks!

I know this is a common problem for other users and this has been reported before.

Often, if I edit an existing post, when I resubmit it, the spinning cogs appear but don't go away. What I do then is to close the spinning cogs screen by clicking on the top right hand little cross of that screen. This takes me back to the posting screen. Because I know the re-edited post has in fact been posted, I don't try to repost the post. Instead I close the posting screen by clicking on the top right little cross of that screen.

This takes me back to the thread screen which still shows the original post. I then refresh the screen which then shows the revised posting.

I use Firefox v3.6 and Windows XP Professional service pack 3.

This is a different minor problem to the previous posting and I'm not aware that it has been reported before.

When I am in the Post Reply screen, sometimes the cursor (the little flashing line pointer) does not appear. This can make it confusing to create the posting. This seems to occur randomly. This posting is fine, whereas the previous one was not.

I use Firefox v3.6 and Windows XP Professional service pack 3.

Lori, I think the reason why I'm the only person who has made any performance issue postings to date is that this topic only appears in the Community Announcements forum. If you were to make it a Shortcut Topic (I think that's the term you use - I'm not sure what the difference is between a Shortcut Topic and a Featured Topic and how we can create one unless as I suspect that's restricted to management) then if I'm right that it will then appear in all forums, you will get lots more replies.

I can report the same problem (and solution), using a Mac and Safari. But all in all I don't seem to have had half as many problems as some people... and have no complaints about the service....

I have exactly the same problem as El Loro.

Over the last few days it's been particularly slow when posting.  I also know when I'm about to get a server error - if I'm in a post reply box and I attempt to press a smiley or should that be a graemlin , the box stays blank and then I get a server error message  and I'm thrown out .  It usually only lasts for a minute or two then I log back in.  It can get frustrating though as it happens a lot.

My browser is Google Chrome.

I get the editing cogs hanging as posted by El and quoted by Baz.

I also get the hiding cursor when trying to compile a message (this doe not occur every time) but it is easily fixed by dragging/moving the reply box on the screen, then clicking back inside the r ply box. hey presto it reappears.

Other than these two minor problems (which i use simple ways to get round) i dont really have any other issues, thanx for asking for our input Lori.

i'm running winxp service pack 3 and mozilla fire fox 3.6

Ok... dunno if this will help work out what is causing the problems...

I haven't had any problems posting (apart from when the whole site goes down, which has happened two or three times, and everyone else was locked out too).  I post in here (Gaga Big Brother forum), The Sinking Ship & now & then comment on blogs.

I am on Windows XP, I use Chrome as my browser.

Where do i find out what browsers i'm using Can someone help me please
Internet Explorer and Firefox are what we refer to as browsers. To see which browser you are using, and which version, go to the Help menu at the top, Select "About Internet Exploere" or "About Mozilla Firefox" or "About whichever browser you are using". The resulting screen will show which browser you are using and which version. So for Firefox I am using v 3.6.2.

Hope that clears up your query.

You are completely right - moving the reply box, then clicking back in the reply box does bring back the cursor.

But it shouldn't be necessary to have to do that, so my posting still stands.

Only me... again...

Mac OS X/Safari 4.0.5 ... as if you didn't know already...

I've had a lot of loading problems here over the past week or so. When it tries too long to do so for over 30 seconds or so, it then seizes my browser which I then have to shut down and open again.

I've also had cogs but have had no error messages to speak of.

I've also had the same reply box problems as described, but I've had them ever since I first came to Gaga, so my solution has now become second nature... but to recap for your purposes Lori... When I first try to post in any area on LC after I've opened the browser up, I get the reply box, usually, but not always with the flashing cursor. If I then start to type in the box it does not accept anything. My solution has all this time has been just to cancel the box and get a new one... then I'm off and running again! If I then go to another forum here in Gaga or area like blogs or the Sinking Ship, I have the same problem, irrespective that I have not closed the browser. If I then return to any area I have succeeded to post in, then I do not have the same issue... until I a) get chucked out b) re-open the browser. I only bother to tell you now, because it has caused me to think how off-putting it might be to someone new. Like I said... I've got used to my pet bug!

I don't have any of the required cards to pay for a LC VIP membership, any chance of using paypal??
muf:  as a matter of fact, we have figured out how to work around this.  But, not for a few weeks, yet.  Can you hang on?  Once we release the version that allows me to do the machinations necessary, I'll contact you, and we can set this up for you.
