well, I dont mind it, but in an attempt to sneak past the mods, I didnt use my real DOB, so, as far as my own birthday goes...I couldnt care less, however, I dont see any harm with knowing when its other peoples to wish them a happy day etc...did I not get the question?

On a selfish note...    I am not looking forward to seeing my birthday looming at me before it actually happens..     I'm over 40 now..   each & every one is a touchy subject.. 

And you know you can remove your birthday from public view, right?

There`s a calendar page at the top of the forum ( look for calendar ) which also gives all the birthday dates.

I prefer them to be hidden. I`m not trying influence your vote btw.

Doesn't bother me - you can take your birthday off if you want.   I don't check the calendar, so I'm more likely to notice an alert there. 

The reason I don't like it is that people might just lurk most of the time, they see their name on the birthday side, we may not notice it............they feel bad.........and carry on lurking and not posting...

Having said that, the "do not display my birthday" option is ticked on my profile page, so my birthday isn't on the calendar.

Doesn't bother me one way or the other. I have always had the hide my birthday box ticked anyway. The only negative of it is seeing all the people who are members that no longer post here.

Like Cologne, i am not sure what calendar you're on about.  Sorry Lori.    i can't see any calendar on the left... i can see one on the right on my screen with peoples birthdays on it... is that the one you mean?

Lori did say on the right Sparkles. So yep...that's the one.

I have found it useful....I am still in touch with someone who used to post here but hasn't done so in over a year, and it was her birthday this week. I would have forgotten if it wasn't for the widget! Luckily I saw it and bought her a pressie and a card in time! Facebook doesn't seem to warn you when birthdays are coming up now.....or if they do it's so small I don't notice it anymore! 

So I voted "yes" for purely selfish reasons

Hi Ducky.    I see the calendar on the right, but Lori is on about a 'calendar widget' on the left; and i arent sure what that is or what it means, so I guess as i havent noticed it, then I don't mind it,   The calendar on the right is handy though.

Hi Sparkles Lori did say left in her original post.... but half way down the page she told Cologne it's on the right. What you can see on the right is definitely the widget we're voting on.

I've ALWAYS struggled with my right and left. I have to stop and think, "now, which hand do I eat with??" Apparently I didn't do that. The widget really is on the right, even in Seattle.

Sorry to confuse...but confusion loves company.

I struggle with it too Lori I use the "which hand do I write with method". Complete with a little wiggle of my right hand to pretend I'm writing! I have even been know to write a big R and L on my whiteboard at school when I'm doing a translation lesson

I was a little worried that when I answered Sparkles' question it was going to ME who had it the wrong way round.
