Evening all

Weather has been dry with sunny spells and a chilly breeze.

El, I knew about the hippopotamus meaning because it was in an episode of Poirot

I hope you’ve all had a good day

Hi Yogi

Not to bad a day here. I went out and did a little gardening about 6.30. Cool with a lovely breeze

How’s your rib today? 🙂

My day has been good, I hope yours has too

Just seen this short Nationwide film.
Much more than just an advert. The words by Finton are his which Mike Garry rearranged into the poem which Finton narrates. Football club is Urmston Meadowvale FC, Manchester.

Good morning everyone it looks to be a very sunny day with lower temperatures but very pleasant.

Thanks EL it was a beautiful day and everyone had a great time. The baby is so good just a whimper if he's hungry and he loves his food. When he's full he likes to listen and look around him.  We're all totally besotted of course.

Enjoy your day everyone

A sunny but cool start to the day here. The forecast is for sunny intervals with a high of 23 degrees

Squiggle, the baby sounds like a darling

I hope you all enjoy today

The SEISS grants on tax returns is causing confusion for taxpayers and HMRC.
I'm having to tell clients that I will wait for the confusion to be sorted out by HMRC before finalising their tax returns.
Grants to go on the 2020/21 return should be the the first three grants which could be claimed with the fourth (and fifth) for the 2021/22 return.
For self-employed people there's a new box in the self-employment section for the amount received and there's a box in the main part of the tax return near the declaration section to be ticked as well.
Seems that HMRC may have their computers set up to include the fourth grant as well which is wrong.

More confusing if the business is a partnership. HMRC's guidance indicates that normally the SEISS grant should go in the partner's own tax return rather than as part of partnership profits.
My reading of the guidance is that there's different boxes to complete depending on which route is taken. Yet to hear back from that tax writer I contacted yesterday as she's saying something different.
And then I read an article published yesterday by my institute. It appears that HMRC are treating the grants as paid into the partnership by default. That is in contradiction to their own advice.

So all I can do is wait and hope this confusion is sorted out.

Met Office has extended thunderstorms warning so is now from 18.00 tomorrow through to 09.00 on Saturday morning.. Covers a wide area but the western side is less likely to get them than the eastern side.

The original HMRC advert for self-assessment tax returns when they were first introduced back in 1995/96. There were later adverts with Hector  the tax inspector but it's been some years since he last appeared.

Hector was voiced in the above advert by a famous British actor, not that he looked like Hector.
No prizes though if you do recognise the voice

Good morning everyone it's a little breezy this morning and the forecast is mainly cloudy. Although we have a weather warning in place for storms I think it's going to be widespread and patchy so we might escape.

Enjoy your day everyone

If you or anyone you know has a cat, there's a serious recall of a type of dry cat food made by Fold Hill due to a potential link to a rare but fatal cat disease:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-57486596

Sainsbury's Hypoallergenic Recipe range and Pets at Home Ava range are being recalled.

Applaws products, which are sold by Amazon and other pet food shops, may also be unsafe.

List of products shown on the above link.
