Good afternoon all

Chilly weather but no snow….yet, Summer.

I’ve done housework but otherwise it has been a quiet day.

Ros, the cat is only doing what comes naturally to it but I don’t want it digging up my veg plants. Securing the netting seems to have worked and the cat didn’t get back into the raised bed last night.
I hope you have all had a good day

Hi Yogi

Just been out fetch some washing in. It’s absolutely freeing out there now

Pleased you had a mostly quiet day

My day has been good fankoo

Good morning everyone

A fairly sunny day here, tomorrow is a wash out.

Got an urgent VAT return to do for a client who didn't send me the information until 5.30 pm yesterday - deadline for filing is today.

I hope everyone has a good day

I've now done that VAT return and sent it to the client. There wasn't much to do this quarter. He's got a lot going on at present (he hasn't told me any details). I had been asking for the VAT info early April. Discovered on Monday on the HMRC agent site that I had been removed as agent for the VAT (not the accounts though). Emailed him and he came back saying he had made a mistake. So I had to request an authorisation as agent for this - HMRC are sending a code to him to pass on to me to trigger that, but that's done through the post so takes days. So he is having to file the return with HMRC using the figures I've given him this time.

That all sounds very complicated to someone such as myself El. But well done on completing that VAT return

Thanks
That VAT return may be small but it's quite complicated as it involves the reverse charge mechanism. I won' attempt to explain that as it's not straightforward and would confuse anyone who doesn't have to understand it

I notice that in the last day or so the BBFC has re-rated a couple of well known films from a PG to a 12.
"Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade". "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" had been re-rated a 12 back in 2012.
Only seen "Raiders of the Lost Ark" once, that was on television and I and my parents were surprised that it had been rated as a PG specifically for the scene near the end where the baddies meet their end.

Moonie, here's a list in chronological order of Steven Spielberg's films that I've seen:
The Sugerland Express (1974), Close Encounters.. (1977), Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), E.T. (1982), Empire of the Sun (1987), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), Always (1989), Jurassic Park (1993), A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001), Catch Me if You Can (2002), War of the Worlds (2005), Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) and the Tintin film (2011). Only Close Encounters and E.T at the cinema, the rest on television, don't have any on DVD.
13 films may seem quite a lot but there are more than 13 that I haven't chosen to see even on television including famous ones such as Jaws and Saving Private Ryan.
By the way "The Sugerland Express" was his first cinema film and had Goldie Hawn in, not one of her comedy films.  "Always" featured Audrey Hepburn in her last film.
"A.I." was directed by Spielberg and dedicated to Stanley Kubrick who had intended to make the film one day but died before he could. The film is sort of Spielberg trying to make the film that Kubrick had in mind but it doesn't work as Spielberg makes it somewhat sentimental and Kubrick's films are hardly sentimental.
"Tintin" is weird, sort of animated live action.

Moonie, could be rainy here until some time tomorrow morning but not cold today with a forecast low tonight of 12°

Cheltenham v Harrogate this afternoon. Hopefully Cheltenham will win, more likely than their previous game away at Newport who are likely to be in the play offs and are the team the other teams would prefer not to be playing in those.

Good luck to Cheltenham today El. Fingers crossed for that win

Not watching it but I noticed that "One of Our Aircraft is Missing" (1942) has been on the Talking Pictures channel today.
Notable as being the first Michael Powell/Emeric Pressburger film from their company "The Archers".
I'm less interested in the war films they made which is why I wasn't watching it.

Various points of trivia about the film:
In the cast was Eric Portman who would be in their later film "A Canterbury Tale" (1944), my favourite film. (although that's sometimes described as a war film which is misleading).
Also in the cast was Pamela Brown who would be in a couple of their later films ("I Know where I'm Going" 1945 and "Tales of Hoffman" 1951) who is buried in the grave next to Michael Powell's.
Also in the cast was Robert Helpmann who would be in their later film "The Red Shoes" (1948),
Very early role for Peter Ustinov,
Second of Powell/Pressburger's films to be edited by David Lean, First film was "49th Parallel" (1941) but that's pre "The Archers"
Cinematography was by Ronald Neame who would also go on to be a film director ("The Poseidon Adventure" 1972 for instance).

It has been a miserable day, weather wise.

I got a delivery of plug plants for my hanging baskets today but, I think I might need to pot them on and grow them in indoors for a couple of weeks as they are a bit on the small side.
I hope you’ve all had a good day

Hi Yogi

Exactly the same weather here too

As I’m not a keen gardener I will have to pass on the gardening advice

My day has only been so-so but tomorrow is another day

I hope your day has been good
