Then there's Maigret - ITV Monday 9pm not that's a family film.

This is the first in a series which is intended to be shown from time to time. This one is called Maigret Sets a Trap. The next one Maigret's Dead Man has been made and I think is due to be shown around Christmas time.

Based on the Georges Simeon books. Set in France, Maigret is on the trail of a serial killer. I think ITV may be looking for a replacement to the likes of Poirot and Foyle's War so the murders are not expected to be excessively gory.

Maigret himself is a low key, bland, ratther dour individual and don't expect any smiles from him. The biggest challenge is for the viewer as, you probably know, he's played by Rowan Atkinson. I think he will be playing this straight with no smiling, no grimacing, no laughter, no wisecracks.

Summer, the first half on television is about 1 hour 47 minutes without adverts and the second half about 1 hour 59 minutes.

That doesn't include the overture at the beginning (about 2 minutes), the intermission (about 4 minutes), the entr'acre after the intermission but before part 2 (just under 2 minutes), and the exit music at the end (about 4 minutes). Those are music only so probably not shown in full on television.

It is a fascinating film and I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy it, such a grand sweep of a story with some wonderful characters and the sort of film they just cannot recreate nowadays.

I am afraid I always see Rowan Atkinson as Mr Bean so I don't think I could see him as Maigret.

Actually I have watched a trailor for it squiggle and it looks quite good

Likewise squiggle, I don't think I could see Rowan Atkinson as anyone else. Mind you, it took a little while for me to not see Maggie Smith as Professor MacGonagall when watching her in Downton. But now when I watch Harry Potter, I see her as Lady Grantham..

4 hours is a long movie! Yes, I may need my own interval

I'm heading out to my exercise class shortly, but will pop in later to say goodnight have a lovely evening all

Good afternoon Buddies

Calm, dull but dry here. Moderately warm too

squiggle, I hope your day has warmed up

El, I have seen the Rupert Davies version. I think they showed it around the same time as they showed the Michael Gambon version. If I can get Mr Bean out of my mind, I may enjoy this version too

I am certainly going to give it a go

Yogi, good luck with the housework and ironing. Rather you than me

Sweet, like the name change but I shall be calling you Bunnyboots until you revert back to you old name. I hope you don't mind

As you know I sometimes call Baz, in Darnies, Bazzyboots

Have a great day everyone

Whew! Busy busy day, me and eldest grandson have been everywhere it seems but got a lot done so all is well.  My lovely daughter has hand embroidered a 'Footsteps' for me which is just beautiful, I will try and take a picture of it to show you when I feel less like a limp dishcloth.  Yogi I hope the housework and ironing go well.

Hi squiggle

Sounds like you have had a full day

Makes me tired just to read about it

Look forward to seeing that embroidery

Squiggle, you have been busy today

I've just been cutting the grass again, It wasn't very long as it hadn't grown much since the previous cut but with wet weather forecast for tomorrow and an unsettled pattern of weather setting in for some time I thought it advisable.

My grass is still to wet to cut El. Despite being dry here for quite a while now

Squiggle, that's a lovely gift

I think the words are from the poem Footprints in the sand by Mary Stevenson which has 4 verses and the ones shown are the last 2. This is the poem:

One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.

After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.

This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."

He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you."
