thanks Baz thats whats what i was hoping somebody up there is putting me through my paces

Hi Tina

I had a similar experience with my son, at a similar age. He had hearing tests etc, and was then booked in for speech therapy, but in the end I decided not to go down that route and just wait and see how things developed.

At primary school he had serious problems with spelling (but not with anything else), which I was convinced was caused by his inability to distinguish between similar sounds. It held him back for a while, but at secondary school he flourished and it's now all a very distant memory. At 21, he still occasionally says a word in a strange way, and you tell it's the old problem with sounds creeping in, but it's only with words he uses infrequently, and is soon sorted.

I definitely don't advocate skipping the therapy though! I don't think that was necessarily a good decision on my part, but I just wanted you to know everything turned out ok So don't worry, get him all the help you can, and I'm sure everything will be just fine

Tina, it sounds more like an immaturity in speech development rather than anything else, and he will catch up with the other kids in time. Speech therapy will help to speed up the process, and by the time he is 5, he'll probably be chattering away so much that you'll be thinking, I wish he'd be quiet for five minutes!

Hi Tina, like others, I don't think it sounds like autism..

Apparently my little sister didn't speak properly till she went to school, they put that down to the fact that I did all the talking for her! See, I was a gobby little madam even way back then!

and, as for the tippy toes thing, my nephew, aged 25' and my son aged 24, still do it to this day!!

But, obviously every case is different, so the assessment is really important

Glad to hear gemma is happy

Rexi

Hi Tina, does Olivia speak for him a lot? Often when there's older siblings it holds back speech development as the older child often says what the younger one wants/needs so they get used to it that way.

I really wouldn't worry too much (if that's possible you're a Mum after all) just give him time and that little extra help he needs x

Jen-Star

hello Tina

I agree with everyone else, my grandson is three and isn't/wasn't the best talker, like Rexi said, sometimes other children tend to talk for them and his two slightly older brother definitely do that  Although, since starting nursery in September his speech his improving daily, if fact I'm amazed how quickly he's come on. Your son does sound a like its a little more like speech immaturity and the speech therapy will help and most likely put your mind at rest.

Delighted to hear Gemma is doing well and happy with the new boyfriend and hope she gets her scan quickly

 Exactly.

Apparently, one of my uncles didn't speak at all until he was three. My dad said he used to point to and 'mime' everything he wanted - but when he started to talk, he wouldn't shut up.
