We are going up to Inverness and staying over then getting the ferry from Scrabster, and stopping at Inverness on way back as well else it's a hell of a drive!
We were going to go from Aberdeen but the ferry doesnt get in to Orkney till midnight which is a fat load of use!

even inverness is a hike! i've never been any further up that side than st andrews, we usually go west, oban, lochaber way on. it's where o/h always went when he was a wee'un and we're continuing the tradition, love it there.

there's one thing i do know about orkney and that is it's quite windy

i've got some great pictures of sproggy in shorts and t-shirt rockpooling on the beach there, we go october week and stay in a cabin near benderloch and sometimes it's unbelievably mild.
it has been known to piss down all week too.

and there's always the chance of the aurora! we got to see it up west one year, amazing, i kept having to ask o/h if he was seeing it too, it was sooo unreal.

we got a good week there in june last year, i don't know how. i'm hoping we can get the odd weekends camping over there this summer. it'll be a weather permitting, spur of the moment type thing.

well it depends on the breed, hill sheep can be really wiley, ours are cross bred and just mental. if there was a useful dog on the farm it would help but out of the 3 of them only one would work and the boss doesn't have the time to train her so it's like the flaming chuckle brothers whenever we have to do anything with the stock.
