There's an amber warning from the Met Office for a solar storm from the Sun which is expected to arrive at about 9pm tonight. The warning is until 9pm on Saturday.
Looks as if this is the biggest such storm in 20 years. Could cause the internet and GPS systems to crash.
In the UK, power systems are less likely to be affected than elsewhere.
Could be spectacular Northern Lights displays in the north of the UK but may be seen anywhere.

They've issued an amber G3 warning and keeping a watch to see if it could turn into a G4 warning.
There's more information about what these warning mean via the Notifications explained link in the Geomagnetic storm section. The warnings go from G1 to G5, the most severe.

I didn't see any Northenr Lights here but too much light pollution in my area.

I didn’t see it either El….but I’ve seen some beautiful photos of it on various news websites .Apparently , some places will get another chance tonight ….but I think it’s more Scotland , Ireland and northern England .

Yes, Baz, the Northern Lights are more likely to be seen in the north rather than the south of the UK tonight.
Last night got to a G5 level (the highest) but tonight the forecast is for a G3 level.

Stunning views
No idea if this was to do with the solar eclipse or solar flare but . . . .
Checked around outside about midnight as I usually do ... only to hear seagulls off in the distance screaming and screaming like you'd hearing down on a quayside somewhere.
Never heard that before - hearing some distance roar was quite scary - so I hid under the duvet
