Just had a phone call supposedly from Online Support Company claiming that I had paid them for support in 2019, that they could not longer provide the support, so were ringing me to refund me. They said that my debit card I used to pay then ended with ****. None of my cards end with that number, Could they send me a cheque for the refund. No, they had to repay me in the same way I'd paid so wanted my card details. I ended the call. I knew it was a scam as I've never paid a support subscription and obviously the 4 digit card number they said was just a random number.

Thanks ElI think I had one this morning ….they said they were some sort of support company , but I cut them off with a no thanks before they had a chance to go into any spiel .

If anyone gets an email claiming that it's from the Government Gateway and is sending you a confirmation code to confirm your email address re your personal tax account, then, unless you are expecting such a code, be aware that there's a phishing scam going around. So don't click on any link in that email and ignore any follow up emails.
I had thought this was being sent to people who have personal tax accounts but my brother told me today that h'e had such an email. He realised that it was a scam when the email address of the sender was from a person and the email started off saying something like "I hope you are well".
If anyone does receive such an email then people are asked to forward it to the HMRC phishing department:

I've had one of those scam emails about signing in to my personal tax account.
It's from "HMRC digital" with an email address which has no connection with HMRC.
Has the HMRC banner
Text reads:
"Dear user,
We trust this message finds you well. HMRC requires your immediate attention to verify your identity. Log in to your business or personal tax account to complete the verification process and ensure your details are up to date. This process is due to our latest and most recent update."
Then a Confirm button. Although the address includes hmrc.gov.uk that is after a fake address.
Alert issued by the Gloucestershire Police:
"We are aware of a scam circulating in your area.
Homeowners in the north Cotswolds have been receiving calls from people stating that they are calling about wall insulation and saying that they will call to their home address on Monday morning at 09.00. This can be a scary situation for anyone and particularly more so for the elderly and vulnerable people in our neighbourhood
Please help us raise awareness of this scam by informing your elderly or vulnerable relatives, friends and neighbours."

I got an email from someone who I knew slightly some some years ago,
Title of email was "Catch up",
Email read:
"Good evening
How are you? Hope everything is good with you.
I need a little favour from you"
and then the sender's first name,

I thought this was a rather odd email and thought it was suspicious, So I rang her and she confirmed that this was a scam which was being sent to people on her mailing list,
I did not reply to the email. If any of you get a similar email, don't reply as the sender's email address has been hijacked and replies will go to the scammer. The scammer will start sending back emails to you asking for something like a Western Union money transfer saying that something like they are abroad, have been robbed, the hotel won't let them leave until they have been paid so need money. Also the scammers will use your email address for future scam attempts.

A couple of years ago an elderly couple I know had their email account hacked, As my email address was in their address book, I got a very similar scam email . With that one the greeting didn't mention my name. I think that's because the scammers are sending the same email to lots of people

Yes, that’s the trouble if a friend / acquaintance gets hacked !
