e is another well known number like pi in that it goes on for ever. First 20 digits are 2.71828182845904523536. It's the base of what are called natural logatithms (common logarithms are on a base of 10).

 

i is the symbol used for the square root of -1.

 

The three can be put together in a formula known as Euler's Identity based on Euler's Formula.

I had been thinking of posting the same thing, but decided against it...

 

All I'll add is that some people prefer to express that equation as:

 eπi+1=0

The reason is that in this form, it contains five important mathematical constants, as well as the three fundamental operations (addition, multiplication, and exponentials).
