The first posting here was a year before that on April 28 2009
you're right, of course. I'm a day and a year off, as usual.

fugit inreparabile tempus
(Virgil's Georgics book 3 line 284 which is the start of the section on the care of sheep and goats. In English that's "it escapes, irretrievable time" and is the source of the phrase "tempus fugit/time flies")
Yes, indeed. Time does fly.
I am sure there is an answer to this somewhere in this thread but...
...how do you get animated smileys to work on the iPad running Safari, please?

I don't have an answer to that as I don't have an iPad or use Safari, but animated smileys seem to be generally gif images. I think some people have had problems with trying to get animated pictures for their avatar when using Safari so these may be the same problem.

Lori, help required please...can you sort my above problem perleeeeeeeze
Hi, Moonie!
Here's how: you find your gif, and you go up to the URL of the gif. Copy that link, and go to your post on gaga. Click the little icon in the posting menu that has the photo (Insert/edit image). In the popup that appears, paste the URL into the Source field. Then click OK, and voila! You have an animated gif!

Nope, it doesn't work Lori...
I couldn't get that one to work, either, Moonie, but I don't know why. I did get this one to work:
Try a different site?
I tried 5 different sites Lori so I shall give it up as a bad job. Thanks for trying anyway
I don't understand why you can't.
i am using my iPad/safari browser with no trouble (except for the gif site you used.)
Can you remind me of your OS version and iPad version?

Thanks, Baz!
Moonie, can you try something on this page, specifically? http://www.animatedimages.org

Moonie ....the key point is that it must be GIF...not url .
Try this out ....go to my smiley site ...yoursmiles.org
Pick a smiley group ...and you will see there are three little circles ....gif , url and html. Click the circle next to gif....then choose a smiley ....highlight( select all) the address box , copy and then follow Lori's instructions for here .

Nooooooo that's fine at least you helped to get me going
Moonie, if you were to use the site Lori linked to you would need to use the third option the URL one rather than the HTML or BBcode options:
For a gif image the option code should end with gif and start with probably http or possibly www. If there is text or characters before http or after gif then that's the wrong option and won't work.
Baz posted:By Jove he's got it

I shall leave you to what's left of CDWM now

Hey, moonie...will you go try the site I linked to, as well? (up there ^^)

Very true
Hmmmm....not happening for me. What are you using for a computer/OS/browser? Any chance you could put a screen shot in your post here?
Yep, I can get it to happen for me, too, using Windows 7 and Explorer 10.
Yep, me, too. Which version of IE are you using, El Loro?
Lori, IE11. I normally use Firefox rather than IE and Firefox doesn't have the same buglet as above.
OK, thanks.

Fixing it, you mean?
The site has slowed almost to a stop for me. Is anyone else having the same probs please?
Hmmm....not for me. There's not anything going on that would slow us down, either, as far as I know. How long has this been going on for you?
Sprout posted:The site has slowed almost to a stop for me. Is anyone else having the same probs please?
Yes , several of us have , but it seems better now
Lori posted:Hmmm....not for me. There's not anything going on that would slow us down, either, as far as I know. How long has this been going on for you?
It lasted about 5 minutes Lori .
So I missed it.
Sorry about that!
Is it better for you, sprout?

It started about 40 minutes ago, about halfway through Masterchef Lori

Since I've been away to make a cuppa and come back it seems to have gotten a little bit better

Oh!
I'm thinking that you guys are on a servlet that seems to be having a little hiccup...
Sorry about that!
Lori posted:I'm thinking that you guys are on a servlet that seems to be having a little hiccup...

Oh right ...ok
Ah right, thanks Lori
Social Strata were rolling out a new release across all their sites yesterday evening so that probably explains the slowdowns.
I don't think so, El Loro...the rollout didn't start until several hours after we discussed it yesterday. I did see that there was one servlet having an issue around that time, but I think it's worked itself out, now.
I've now lost the icons in the posting box, although when I hover over each 'box' as I can only see now, it does tell me what I can do from each separate 'box'
Sprout, please remind me what you are posting on? (device/browser)
Laptop Lori, Windows 8.1 on Chrome
Hmmm...I'm posting from that combination right now, and can see everything I'm supposed to be seeing.
Can you try quitting your browser and trying again?
Also...do you have another browser on your laptop, like Firefox or something? If so, can you try that, and see if it looks the same?
Thanks Lori. I quit everything and cleared my search history and cache and stuff, then logged completely out and back in then retried Chrome.....still the same. However I'm posting this from IE and it appears ok
OK, I'm thinking you have some extension or something on Chrome that is causing the issue. What version of Chrome are you using? I'll see if I can dig around and find some more info.
Version 50.0.2661.94 m Copied & Pasted, also saying it's up to date
OK, I'm on it!
Sprout, it may help Lori if you also say what make and model of laptop you are using.
Lori, I see from this page on Chrome updates that the make of laptop may be relevant to Sprout's issue.
http://googlechromereleases.blogspot.co.uk/
I'm on a 17.3 inch Toshiba Satellite C70
It started off with Windows 8 but now upgraded (a good while ago) to 8.1
OK, sprout:
I can't find anything specific to that issue, but I do wonder if it's an extension on your Chrome.
I found this list of troubleshooting steps to take:
https://productforums.google.c...c/chrome/626aIaLs2Nw
You would start at #4, because you've done everything before that, already.
An easy way to see if you even HAVE any extensions is to go here (apologies if you already know this...)
