You're not allowed to upload photo files

I never had any problems on the old forum

You should only get that not allowed message if you are trying to post an image from your computer, images on the web should be fine.

There are 3 ways to post pictures as described in my second post on the first page of this thread:
To insert an image either drag a picture from the site where the picture is and drop it in the Add Reply box, or copy the picture and paste it, or use the Insert/Edit Image icon and paste the link to the picture.
Just copying the link and pasting it direct into the add reply editor screen won't work.

The go to First unread link is a bit hit and miss..  half the time takes me to the first unread from ages back not the newest ones.

Not urgent but thought I'd mention it anyway

Don't like that the enter button takes me down a paragraph with just one hit ..  am always used to doing double enter for a new paragraph in any other typing format so have to back up again every time. Double enter is the norm for a new paragraph everywhere else

Olly, I found that the first time I logged out and then logged in again that the first unread link did take me to the begnning of a thread even though that was wrong but that it worked properly on subsequent log outs and log ins.

According to Brian Lenz, the shift enter for a new line and enter for a new paragraph is normal nowadays - https://www.socialstrata.com/s...5#428161926787748845

That's not one which I can answer though Lori may be able to.  I suspect it's not possible as it would have been implemented like that across all of Hoopla's forums.
You could make a suggestion about this on the Social Strata site: https://www.socialstrata.com/support/topics/hoopla

Okay El, ta muchly

I suppose, a few days on, my main gripe is that roughly only a third of the screen is devoted to the thread itself. [ That's the important bit - we come here to communicate ] .The ratio of central text and margin / extraneous guff needs tweaked, if possible [ please].

While I'm grateful for the hard work and effort that's gone in  nevertheless I'm hoping for a Windows 8 scenario ? Meaning that feedback could eventually lead to a [at least partial ] return to the older, better way of doing things.

I never log out.. . so that isn't why first unread reply is hit or miss in my case...

Double enter/carriage return has always been a  new paragraph since the days of typing classes.. shift and enter is not the norm on any other program I or anyone else uses..  MS Word for example, all email programmes and so on....  sorry Brian not sure where you got that from,  Not that I could find the post anyway as that link just takes me to the topic page.. and not to mention changing years and years of muscle memory just for one forum so you don't double enter is pretty stupid..

I don't post regularly but can imagine if I did it would drive me mad having to go back and hit backspace, after automatically double entering all the time , like I just had to for this paragraph

Olly, I had posted my comment about the first unread reply from what happened to me when I logged out and logged back in. I don't know of a cause for what you've experienced in that case. The social strata link in my post which you quoted whould take you to Brian's comment rather than the topic page so that's very odd A random thought, have you tried clearing your browser cache in case the revised forum has confused it?

Clicking that link takes me to the main topics list not a thread...

The first unread happens on my PC and Laptop so nothing to do with the cache needing clearing and as I said it is random, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. . it does take me to my last post if I have posted in a thread.. which is pretty stupid as I then don't know if anyone has posted before mine went thru.

arrrgggh double entered again and halfway down the post box. .Tell Brian Microsoft doesn't rule the world..  standard is, and always has been

Sorry Brian, but just because Microsoft have decided to do it that way DOESN'T make it the norm.

Enter x1 = New line.
Enter x2 = New paragraph

I can't tell you how much I agree..!  It's really beyond poor and goes against all the basics that I was taught as a typist.   I know things move on but sheesh!

I've no idea who Brian is btw; (he's not on my list of favourites that's for sure)

Olly, I have found that there are some random posts on a thread which are gone to when clicking on New/First Unread Post and I've broight this to Lori's attention with examples. I did find problems with this very soon after the implementation but at that stage it seemed to be a temporary glitch when one logged out and logged back in. What you and I have found is different and has nothing to do with logging out. It seems that if you close the forum and/or close your browser then the new/unread post does not remember your recent activity on the forum. It seems to remember the correct information on a thread from where you were 20 or so minutes from when you came out, However, if you came out of the forum in a shorter time (haven't established the exact length of time) it gets confused and when you go back in, there's the New sign even if there's no posts on the thread since you left and the New takes you to a random reply.

Thanks EL, but I've tried all these  Before, I could simply copy my image from Google (say a happy birthday image) and post it straight in to the reply box.

Now I can copy my image sure enough and I can paste it in the box and actually see it but before I can press post, it pops up with a message.....you are not allowed to upload photo files  and then I have to press the ok button and the whole thing disappears I'm just wondering if anyone else is getting this. I'm on Chrome on Windows 8.1

FM

Sprout, looking at some of your recent posts about images it does seem odd that you can copy and paste Google images on IE but not on Chrome. The message about not being allowed to upload images should only appear where someone who is not VIP tries to upload pictures from their computer.

But a thought has crossed my mind. You used to be a VIP but cancelled the subscription a few months ago. It may be that if you haven't cleared the Chrome browser cache since you stopped being a VIP, your browser gets confused. So if that's the case then clearing the cache might just sort out the problem.

On my lappy I run chrome on Linux OS. When I did Dameee's stuff in her fred, I copied it and pasted it in reply box and a box below the post  box, the attachments box, came up with a thumbnail in it. Then clicked the post reply green box and it worked.

So in effect there was nothing in the post box, it was in the Attachments box underneath.

Sprouty I don't run Windows anywhere now.

I have never even been able to master the art of post pictures from my iPad. Every piccie or video I have posted has been from my lappy.

i don't know if you are able to follow that Sprouty it's the best way I can describe it. Sorry.

I don't know if this has any bearing EL but I also had a problem posting videos in the music thread. I used to copy the link from a video on You Tube and post it in the insert video box, now I find I can just copy and paste the link straight away in the reply box

I don't think it would have any bearing as the way videos are posted has changed from the previous method. And you have found that you can post videos.

Also: Here's a cleaner way to copy/paste images from the internet:

Right-click and choose "Copy Image URL". Then, click the "Insert/edit image" icon on the toolbar, and paste the image URL.

And one more: I can drag and drop an image from one window to the posting window without problem. Have you tried that?

You could access them but unless you had bookmarked them, it was more complicated than it was under 1.0 or until it was revised in the last day on 2.0.

As far as I am aware there are TWO places that link to the Forums. In the dark menu bar at the top and at the top/bottom bar of each page.
Initially (I remember now) after version 2 was launched they both linked to a single list of forum titles which you scrolled down to get to the forum you wanted. Now the one in the dark bar at the top has sub-mebues to get to other forum choices. as we had in version 1
