This track was on Eastenders last night. It was an Emmerdale ad break.
velvet donkey BMW''s used to be the ultimate driving machine. Try finding an original 3.0 Si. You won't do it. BM's are totally bland now. Their design team are kids with crayons. [ more ]

Right - would you strike?
Kaytee Airline workers have had a poor deal……..they should have their reduction reinstated Rail workers have nothing much to complain about…….anyway, if they have a problem take it up with the owners, but down here there is no sympathy for them at all and the strike had little support and it was a bit of a damp squib [ more ]
Dame_Ann_Average I'm 100% behind the airport workers and rail workers Velvet....enough of these thick barstewards taking the piss. The airport staff took a 10% pay cut due to covid, the airlines have so far refused to give it back to them even though restrictions are over. The rail strike is a completely different matter, private firms are walking all over workers and people accept is as if it should be the norm. While we have created more billionaires in the last three years, the rich have got wealthier by... [ more ]

Is Lyndsay Hoyle a dickhead?
Baz Agree 100% Velvet [ more ]
velvet donkey Why do they call it PMQ's? It's about the only time you see Johnson and he answers nothing. Jobs for Carrie and banker bonuses - both no answer. Pre-prepared waffle. Repeatedly. Are you aware of your job remit Hoyle. If he recited Keats or Burns in answer he'd probably still get away with it. You're an utter joke. Betty Boothroyd would eat you for breakfast. [ more ]
Baz I’d go with , probably ….he’s a politician after all [ more ]

You can have the last word.
Saint It's good to share - I also wonder how many people's everyday struggles, we all face, are being interpreted as major issues now we have a culture of 'mental health madness' - for want of a better phrase and making them think they need help? Most people do not have mental health problems in the classic sense, everyone struggles, we all go though rough times and such people are hijacking centre stage at the cost of those with enduring mental health issues. Too much education? Or not enough... [ more ]

Online is mad.
Baz Exactly Renton….and in some cases , those trips to the post office , or bank , were the only times people got to see/speak to another human being ! [ more ]
Saint Said the same Velvy - Post Office has stopped accepting benefits payments, now it's direct to bank but if your bank is nowhere near how do you get your £££? Going to the local to withdraw was part of some people's routine kept or years and now to 'cut costs' people are being ostracised in their own community - they don't think about that [ more ]
Baz I agree Velvet ….banks and post offices are a lifeline for many elderly people ! I’m pretty internet savvy , but lots of people still aren’t … and it’s not like the banking sector are hard up ! [ more ]

I know we shouldn’t panic but
Baz They (UKHSA and the ECDC) are now saying people with the monkey pox should not handle their pets …and should isolate them …to prevent a reservoir (ping pong effect) between humans and domestic animals ! [ more ]
Saint Monkey pox aside . . . urghh, are we becoming the vermin we so ruthlessly exterminate? I called our GP to get a 'call-back' appointment over the phone and was told I was too late as all the appointments had gone due to "so many of the doctors being off sick". Quite alarming when you think about it [ more ]
Baz Yes, it is Slim…..and so many of the things they’ve been saying …eg downplaying it initially , but gradually seeing it increase ….seem to be mirroring the early days of covid . [ more ]

30p a day.
Eugene's Lair I'm going to hazard a guess that he didn't factor in the cost of the gas or electric required to cook it either. Common errors made by those who keep insisting the poor just need to learn how to cook and budget (and which the like of Jack Monroe keep having to correct) include: 1) Relying on bulk-buying. As you point out, those getting by week-by-week (or even day-by-day) can't afford to do that. 2) Not including the "hidden" costs, such as the gas/electric for cooking. 3) Low... [ more ]
Baz ….and my mum used to say that too [ more ]
Former Member I was reading about this. He doubled down saying he has proof from the food bank that this is achievable. Said the bank made a meal for 50 averaging 30p a portion. So that’s: one food option only, no variety made using bulk quantities, not possible on a budget made using donated / out of date products no drinks or sides As they say in statistics, small samples give erroneous results. As my gran used to say, empty barrels make the most noise. 🤬 [ more ]
