GRENFELL TOWER
Moonie Re: GRENFELL TOWER [ more ]
Moonie It’s all about money Velvet Who gonna foot the bills, can money be made somehow? Who’s gonna gonna foot the compensation bills? No one gives a toss about the poor people who have died, the ones that are gonna die from the injuries received and the ones who are left to grieve their lost loved ones 😞😡 [ more ]
Moonie I guess if I had lost a loved one I would probably want it removed and some kind of memorial erected but I haven’t so that is just a personal opinion. [ more ]

Happy Birthday Carnelian
Carnelian Portishead yep absolutely!, Goldfrapp umm, quite good [ more ]
Saint May I propose Portishead and Goldfrapp [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities @Carnelian I had an inkling you would get it. It is quite hard to find bands/artists that genuinely move me these days, I must come across a few each year, but that also includes music from the past I not heard before. Tara has piqued my interest to a greater degree. [ more ]

Saint Sounds dreadful - few of us appreciate what we have til it's gone Without my contacts or glasses my eyes are so bad I would be registered blind - with them i'm fine. Oddly I enjoy my temporary blind world, I can switch off from the real world knowing I can return at will ... it's an bizarre situation [ more ]

Camden flats to be evacuated over cladding
Kaytee Here goes....twopennorth on the NHS as I've experienced it locally and I have a season ticket at the local hospital between 2000-10, it was a scruffy place that I wouldn't like to be confined in. The inefficiency was terrible, half the nurses couldn't speak English and basic mistakes were being made all over the place......Then there came a change of management when it became part of a much bigger trust. I have to go there on a regular basis , since 2015 for me, but the hubby also has a... [ more ]
Dame_Ann_Average no it's not Baz and I would love to know where and what you have been reading this shadow Cabinet would be considered Liberal in Norway or Sweden and they are amazed at things said about the Labour party. [ more ]
Dame_Ann_Average I'm not talking about here either Baz...I tend to scroll passed trolls and don't engage and I can promise you I bet it's equal on either side, depending on what side you're on I think the Levinson thing should never have been dropped, we need papers regulated to tell the truth and not stir up hatred and the far right not to be given a platform...feck sake they are doing Isis's job at recruiting if they carry on. Cladding failure
Eugene's Lair It's looking like it's the former, Fluffy. I agree that the way the information's trickling out isn't ideal. but I've just been watching the BBC News headlines and they said "So far, 100% of panels tested have failed." [ more ]
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing Latest failures is 60 high rises in 25 areas. I think we should be told if, at the same time, any have been tested and passed! i.e. Are these 60 failures out of 60 tests or are these 60 failures out of 60+ tests? [ more ]
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing In that case they are not testing UP TO 600, they are testing them all. So why don't they just say that? [ more ]

Brian Cant
Saint http://www.radiotimes.com/news...an-cant-dies-aged-83 Baroness Floella Benjamin, who worked alongside Cant as a Play School presenter in the 70s, said her late co-star was a "comedy genius". She told the BBC: "He was totally devoted to making children happy – he introduced children to comedy with zany jokes and his funny sketches." [ more ]
Saint I loved his sense of joy, warmth and silliness. Never to be forgotten - the wonderful Brian Cant [ more ]
Carnelian .RIP Brian. Yes, Yogi and Saint, he was Play School. Those of us of a certain age probably think of Brian Cant as the first 'celebrity' of their childhood. [ more ]

Saint People who seem to be able to make mega money through being talented also seem to be a fool with it once they've 'made it'. [ more ]
Former Member But then I really, really have a problem with any 'celeb' that turns their business affairs over to someone else. Surely past stories must've made them sit up and take notice? Am I being naive/stoopid here? [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities I often wonder if their talent diminishes all of the other senses, in particular common sense. He will be fine financially, he has his TV and Radio work not just on the BBC but other stations, then there will be his 'hard luck book' which will be out as soon as he can find a creative ghost writer. help needed!
Baz Awww Yes , it took a long time for them to diagnose Mr Baz ....and then he had to go through some injections into his spine ....before they finally agreed to operate . Mine took a while too ....in fact they initially thought the dizziness etc. Ménière's type of inner ear disease ....it was only an on the ball physio guy that finally got the diagnosed!! Anyway , I hope they get a move on with your husband Machel .... I know what a worry it is [ more ]
machel Nothing else Baz, he was referred to a neurologist first because he has numbness in his hands and now his legs and it was thought to be carpal tunnel. It has taken over 6 months to get to this stage and he has slowly been getting worse. [ more ]
El Loro I've no knowledge of this but I think that surgery can be traditional open spine surgery or minimally invasive surgery (so closer to something like keyhole surgery) If the minimally invasive surgery is an option, then the patient is up an walking within a few hours and there's no lengthy recovery, though there may be a slightly higher risk of accidental damage during the operation. Jack Vettriano
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Nice insight there Kaffy and I do like the picture above, I think it appeals as I hail from a once industrial city and local artists use past and present industry in their work. It's like a beauty and beast juxtaposition. I agree about the subject of women in the pictures, you make a good point. Hope you enjoyed your birthday. [ more ]
Kaffs I love his work, but Eug is right - the 'establishment' really look down on him, probably because he's so prolific and sells his work for lots of money while he's still alive. A bone of contention is the 'soft porn' aspect too... some of his work is pretty dark in that respect, I suppose. I guess it's ok for the old masters to paint nudes, but a modern day artist painting ladies in a state of undress is a no no. i'm probably slight biased because he's a local lad (I used to live across the... Big Brother: Kayleigh's remarks
Cosmopolitan She's from generation orange, teef 'n t*ts ..... so I'm not surprised that she's limited in her understanding of the huge range of skin tones that make up the general public. [ more ]
Kaffs I've not really been following BB since the second night - but it was on in the background last night - and I did notice that during the arguments, the negatives about the posh guy were his hairstyle, his clothes and his lack of tan. Speaks volumes about the shallowness of the HMs [ more ]

Embedding BBC clips

El Loro Please note that when embedding a BBC clip, it's part of the BBC terms and condtions that you don't remove any of the content and that there should be a link to the article and where it's from on the BBC site. So that's why in the clip above I've made sure that the Read the full article | BBC News website is showing and also I think it's best to show the BBC logo at the bottom. [ more ]

When did it all go wrong?
Videostar Couldn't agree more. BB4 (even tho it produced the greatest ever HM's in Jon Tickle) also killed the BB we knew and loved, and created this carnage we see today...selling the rights to the show to channel5 didn't help either. I can remember every HM's name from the first several BB's from the early 2000s, but I can hardly remember any of the HM's from the last few summer BB's...that says everything to me...that's why I'm not bothering with this years show. [ more ]
Carnelian It didn't really go wrong, it just became repetitive and tiresome. Familiarity breeding contempt. C5 have handled it badly but it's a tired old format anyway that delivers the same tiresome stereotypes. One larger than life attention seeking streotype after another just becomes a boring. We all know the types: - The camp gay extrovert, the drama queen, the posh boy, the angry lefty, the busty lovely, the would be gangsta, the hasbeen, the left/right wing reactionary, the cheeky Geordie, the... [ more ]
Rexi Good to see you machel xx For me it died when it became scripted, probably before C5, but it really holds no interest for me now. [ more ]
