Something that may inform your next mobile phone choice.
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Baz, have you considered one of those rechargeable battery packs? I was looking at a new Samsung one which can charge my phone 2.5 times before it needs charging itself. However my phone has some great battery management and it goes for days. [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Having researched batteries, it would appear that modern batteries tend not to need the drain phase. The current perceived wisdom is to let the phone get to around 15%-20% and then fully charge. What should be avoided is charging the battery when one is near a socket irrespective of remaining level. However it is such a minefield trying to get solid advice. If you make 5 searches you could come up with differeing answers. I started by researching battery composition. It does also help that... would anyone mind signing this petition please...? (vaping TPD)
Baz I don't know much about it Pirate , but will certainly read it and sign if I agree [ more ]
El Loro Pirate, you will find that the number shown as the target on the change.org petition will automatically increase once the number of supporters reaches that target. Change, org says that the target number is not meant to signify how many supporters are needed to deem the petition a success. It is added as a milestone to help engage and energize supporters. http://help.change.org/hc/en-u...hange-signature-goal [ more ]

BBC Food website to be closed down
Former Member How interesting, thanks El Loro . Yes they lived the high life by all accounts. [ more ]
El Loro The clip I posted doesn't show that before the 2 women started the food fight the table was laid out with a banquet. The women start gorging themselves with the food and drinkfor several minutes before the food fight. At the start of the scene of them gorging, the music is from Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle - Gotterdammerung which is English means Twilight of the Gods. The film doesn't make it certain but it's thought that the film director had in mind that it was a banquet for the communist... [ more ]

Ken Livingstone, anti-Semitism and the media's agenda
Carnelian Remember how long Blair's honour to Bernie Ecclestone ran in the media? People were still going on about it 8 years latter. Yet Cameron honours Lynton Crosby for running a dirty tricks campaign against Labour and the media only cares for a week. How is running a dirty tricks campaign for the Tories worthy of an honour? That's not in the country's interest. That's in the Tory Party's interest. How has it benefited the country? Obviously Tories will be pleased that there is a Tory government,... [ more ]
Carnelian Isn't that the point that the Labour Party has to be twice as competent and twice as ethical to even be regarded by our media as half as competent and half as ethical as the Tory Party? [ more ]
Carnelian This mostly! I do think Livingstone has a bit of anti-semitism in him but for Mann to shout "Nazi apologist" at Livingstone was a disgrace. Mann should be booted out of the Labour Party! Only yesterday Zak Goldsmith implied that Sadiq Khan was a terrorist sympathiser because he was Asian and a Muslim This kind of dog whistle racism goes unchecked while the media vultures pick at the Labour Party. slow connection
El Loro Lori, Pirate posted recently that he uses Windows 7 but I don;t know which browser. I'm also on Windows 7. I did have problems in getting on the forum a few days ago. I was able to get on to the Big Brother page but not on the Home page. Other sites were OK. I use Firefox, there had been an update to that (it's now 46.0.1) and I decided to Refresh Firefox from Troubleshooting Information in the Firefox menu. That seems to have sorted that problem out. Lori Pirate, can you tell me what you are using (PC or Mac), what operating system, what browser, and the versions of each? I'll see if I can do some troubleshooting. [ more ]

Knock Knock - Who's There? - Labour
pirate1111 tories are not living & breathing, they run on 2 AA batteries [ more ]
Carnelian Only got the police thing to vote for so won't bother with that. Hopefully Corbyn will give the vested media interests and Blairite malcontent red-Tories a bloody nose. Why is it we can have a PM who hawks arms to the vile Saudi regime, which Labour want stopped, yet the Tory media are spinning Labour as terrorist sympathisers and that spin is generally playing well with 'the public'. The abysmal standard of political discourse in this country is Orwellian. [ more ]

Happy Star Wars Day!
Former Member The films didn't make much impression on me but I remember the excitement + all the tat that came out when it was released. I loved my Star Wars watch. Also the wee boy next door was always showing off his toys So I nicked his Hans Solo b.t.w. That's the only thing I've ever stolen apart from when a local gang of millies [ Belfast version of scalllies] took me under their wing + we all shoplifted an ice-lolly for a dare Although that shop [Simpsons! Pensions....
El Loro EC, yes £1,000 for standard rate tax payers, £500 for higher rate taxpayers, and nil for anyone who had income over £150k. For those on lowish income, they might be able to make use of the 0% rate band on interest up to £5,000 and that's in addition to the £1,000. Those exclude interest from ISAs which can be ignored for tax purposes. Retired people are the most likely to benefit. Someone with pension income of £11,000 and interest income of £6,000 would pay no tax - the pension income is... [ more ]
Garage Joe I think that tax free bag of sand interest is right across the board covering all of your non ISA stuff like acçounts and bonds. [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities I am not really surprised that they could consider raising the retirement age again in the future. We are living longer so I guess they (whoever they are at the time) need to fund pensions longer. I must say that I currently fall into the group that will retire at 68, but I bet it will rise to 70 before I get there. I have to say that ISA's (the cash variety) are a bit of a poor investment at the moment given the shockingly low interest rates. I will admit to my 3 year fixed cash ISA at 3%... [ more ]
