How many more this year?
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing Tyrus Wong, the artist whose works inspired the Disney film Bambi, has died aged 106 on December 30th. A Chinese immigrant, Mr Wong's vibrant paintings captured Walt Disney's eye and became the basis of the film's distinct style. In a statement, the Walt Disney Family Museum said "his influence on the artistic composition of the animated feature Bambi cannot be overstated." He died at home surrounded by his family. Heavens, they've managed to squeeze another one in at the last moment!!!!! [ more ]

Saint Every store has their merits I guess I love the set up at our local Tesco - it's rather nice The other day I was there and a young lad walked up to an older man who had already began work. The young guy looked decidedly underwhelmed to be there. "So you just about to start work?" said the older guy. "Yep" said the younger - looking bored. "Great - let's get ready to rock n roll" He really said that - rock n roll ... at Tescos. I bit my lip and walked away. [ more ]

The mystery of why you cant remember being a baby
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing I think I may have mentioned that I come from Clydebank too. My Dad's Aunts Lived in Helensburgh (their front room looked out over the beach) and my mum's uncles and an aunt lived in Dunoon and Inellan. [ more ]
Cold Sweat I have early memory of Helensburgh but perhaps aged 4/5. They had public trampolines on the waterfront during the summer which I thought very exciting! We holidayed in Clydebank (my parents’ hometown) and would drive up to Rosneath to visit family friends – very exciting; I got to experience trampolining and I got to see nuclear submarines on the Gare Loch and I can still vividly picture both! George Michael: Pop superstar dies at 53
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Sounds like he was working on a new album as well as the documentary so I expect to see releases in the new year. From what I have read the doc was having the finishing touches put to it so that sounds like it was just about done. I hope any new material that was being put together for a new album does not end up in the same mess as that dreadful Michael Jackson album. [ more ]

Saint Yes - Christmas went off without a hitch - which was nice. My parents came out with two comments of near genius during Xmas day. Completely out of the blue, suddenly - Dad: "So I've been thinking, Jewish people have been persecuted throughout history. Why??" . . . . I was like as I chewed on a sprout. Mum: "I wonder if the birds taste the stuff we throw out for them and sometimes think, 'Nah'." Me: Merry Christmas (I think) [ more ]

Garage Joe Of course I'm old enough to remember buying Pictures of Matchstick Men. A lovely new sound at the time. They could obviously play in spite of all the boogie nonsense in latter years. Later one of my school friends was a groupie who followed them around before changing to Mott the Hoople. All underage stuff - she was mature beyond her years. But as I became wiser I realised it was particularly naughty on their part and lost all respect for these bands. I'm sure it happened all over but I... [ more ]

The Co-op has recalled all its Santas
El Loro It's hard to see how this could have happened by accident, The police have been informed of this. It seems that the Santas were manufactured in Germany so the tampering could have been done there rather than in this country. [ more ]

MSM
pirate1111 probably report on what happened but not automatically blame refugees, as it turns it WAS a refugee but the DM really winds its readers up with bile BEFORE they find out the facts. thats what gets to me the dm have already forked out 150 grand to one family cos katie gobkins said they were terrorists, with no proof then they had to apologise (in tiny print) to a student NUS girl saying she supported isis-she didnt-dunno if they had to pay her anything then, this is the best bit, dm sales... John Glenn death: Pioneering US astronaut was 95
Yogi19 Sounds like an exceptional man. RIP John. [ more ]
Kaffs Aw..that's so sweet. Thanks for the Eugene - very interesting. What a man. [ more ]
Eugene's Lair I believe they were childhood sweethearts. I first became aware of Annie Glenn through the movie "The Right Stuff" (which I strongly recommend if you haven't seen it). They've clearly been exceptionally close: Annie is a stammerer, and John was always very protective of her. If the movie is to be believed, the other wives of the Mercury astronauts also became very protective, to the point that they snubbed the then-vice president Lyndon Johnson because Annie wasn't able to talk to him! As... [ more ]
