Books into Film .
Former Member The problem is not making books into films but doing it well. I often thought I would like to have a film production company which adapted books to the screen and did it properly. I understand El Loros points about the difficulty in translating the written word to film but what drives me mad is when they kill off characters or make up new ones and thereby completely change the story. I love Dean Koontz's books and think most of them would adapt very well to the big screen but every single... [ more ]
Ensign Muf Thin Air by George E Simpson and Neal R. Burger Read it about 30 odd years ago and as far as I am aware, it was never made in to a film. Though films have been made about the Philadelphia Experiment [ more ]
El Loro The problem with choosing a book to make into a film is that they are very different forms of media. A book lets you visualise the story as you read it whereas a film visualises the story for you. Compare two of the greatest Brisitsh directors of all time - David Lean and Michael Powell. I rate Powell ahead of Lean as whereas Lean generally adapted existing books, Powell tended towards material written for the film (normally using Emeric Pressburger). Also if you adapted even a short book... [ more ]

Paul Gude Indeed I do! From the information I have, that's exactly what's happening. If the series moves forward, the BBC will be providing some of the financing. The good news that's related to this is that at the time of this writing all of the actors (with the exception of Peter Dinklage) are from the UK. Elizabeth Taylor has died
brisket In a tribute to hear on BBC News there was a rather interesting revelation. Elizabeth Taylor said that she gave a lot of credit to Montgomery Clift for creating within her a moment of change in her approach to acting. She had said that she had hitherto subconsciously thought that you play the part of a character, but that Montgomery Clift had impressed upon her that you actually have to 'inhabit' that character - become that character. In an interview she gave much credit for that learning ... [ more ]

El Loro I'm pleased to see that you appreciate A Canterbury Tale as much as I do as, superificially, it can seem a silly storyline, but when you think about it, there is much more to the film than that. I know you are not a fan of 2001, but I wondered if you had ever seen it at the cinema or just on a television screen. El Loro The BBFC has today announced that the distributors have chosen (not been instructed by the BBFC) to release the film in a shortened version, by omitting the 7th reel of what would be a 9 reel film. The distributors have also indicated that the film shoul be projected at 25 frames per second instead of the normal 24 frames. I think that the reel consistes mainly of hallucinatory images. The 25 frames per second means that the film will play at the same speed as an ordinary DVD. The BBFC text... [ more ]

The most censored film in recent years
El Loro Reference: jackassfan but some of the sick stuff like the baby rape scene has stopped me from watching it The BBFC has now provided its extended classification information, and they confirm as I expected that this scene has been fully cut leaving just the sounds of the baby crying and the reactions on the faces of the onlookers.
