think in villages to be accepted you  have to have  family to have lived there for a few generations

I was joking with the doctor today that we’ve only lived in this village for 27 years, so we’re still not considered as locals 

 same here - been here a bit longer than that  since here since first married but still the outsider manc -OH better cos at least he is welsh

My accent means I will never be accepted 

Ditto with MrY. He uses lots of Scottish words but still has an English accent.

 yes scottish is very distinctive -here its not so bad cos at least we are a border town so TBH it isn't too bad accent wise

Hubby has a Welsh SiL and her accent was very Welsh (she came from a Welsh speaking area). She has lived in England for 35 years now.
